The Warm Welcome initiative sees participating community venues opening their doors to everyone, offering a friendly place to visit, connect with others and enjoy a free hot drink in a safe and welcoming environment.

Venues across the borough provide opportunities for social interaction, community support and activities that help reduce isolation during the colder months.

This year, World Mental Health Day aligns with the National Literacy Trust's Take 10 to Read campaign – encouraging you to take just 10 minutes out of your day to read for your wellbeing. So, at the support stand, we’ll have reading resources and a selection of free books for people to browse and take away.

We're hosting a Mental Health and Wellbeing Pop-Up Support Stand in Barwell next Friday (9 October) in support of World Mental Health Day.

☕💚 Macmillan Fundraising Day Success! 💚☕

Yesterday, we held our Macmillan Fundraising Day at the amazing George Ward Community Centre in Barwell, and what a fantastic day it was!

Thanks to the hard work of our team and the wonderful team at George Ward Community Centre, we pulled off an incredible event and raised an amazing 🌟£461🌟 for Macmillan Cancer Support. 🎉

We would like to say a huge thank you to:

🍰 Everyone who donated delicious cakes
🎁 Those who donated prizes for the tombola
🏡 All of the fantastic Community Houses groups who came along to support such a worthy cause
💚 Lesley, Manager of The George Ward Community Centre, for allowing us to use the centre, for her generous cake donations, and for the time, effort and support provided by her and her staff

This event was a brilliant example of what can be achieved when the Community Houses, George Ward Community Centre, and our local community come together. The teamwork, generosity and support shown by everyone was truly amazing.

Well done to everyone involved, and thank you for helping us raise money for such a fantastic cause! 👏💚

🤝 The Borough Council and Cadent have extended their partnership for a further two years, continuing to provide vital support to residents through the Centres for Warmth programme.

Over the last two years, Community Hinckley & Bosworth Community Houses in Barwell, Wykin and Burbage have helped thousands of people facing cost-of-living pressures by offering a warm welcome, practical advice and access to support services.

Funded by Cadent through Ofgem's Vulnerability and Carbon Monoxide Initiative, the programme helps residents with issues such as emergency food support, benefits checks, budgeting advice and access to grants and funding.

Since launching, the initiative has supported more than 4,000 residents and helped nearly 3,000 people maximise their income. It has also improved home safety, with hundreds of carbon monoxide alarms distributed, and residents signed up to the Priority Services Register.

The extended partnership will continue these services while introducing additional support, including energy-saving advice, financial hardship assistance, cooking-on-a-budget sessions, carbon monoxide awareness training, free alarms and free gas safety checks.

Councillor Michael Mullaney, Executive Member for Community Safety, said: “This partnership with Cadent has already made a real difference to residents across the borough. Extending the programme means we can continue to provide vital support to those who need it most, while building on the success of the last two years.”

Nicola Campbell, Safeguarding Specialist at Cadent, said: “We are proud of the partnership we have built with the council to ensure those struggling in Hinckley and Bosworth receive the extra support they need. We have already seen a significant impact in the area and look forward to seeing how this continues to evolve.”

🍂 Autumn Creations 🍂
Now that summer is over, we'll be turning our attention to all things autumn!
Our latest creations are a beautiful celebration of the season, using autumn colours, leaves, and natural-themed decorations. As the days get cooler, our craft sessions will focus on seasonal projects inspired by autumn.
Our cooking sessions will also be getting an autumnal makeover, with plenty of seasonal ingredients and comforting recipes to enjoy together.
We look forward to sharing our autumn journey with you all! 🍁🎃

This is amazing 👏 looks like everyone had a great time

Last Saturday (5 Sept) Ukrainian families from across the borough came together at Argents Mead for a community picnic to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day, which is officially marked on 24 August and commemorates Ukraine's declaration of independence in 1991.

Families who have made the borough their home since the outbreak of the war enjoyed a wonderful day of friendship, community and celebration, supported by the Borough Council. Attendees shared food, enjoyed music and took part in games, including football rounders, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for all ages.

💙💛 It was a pleasure to bring people together and celebrate the strength, culture and resilience of our Ukrainian community.

💚 Join Us for a Macmillan Coffee Morning!

The Community Houses and George Ward Centre teams are delighted to be hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on 22nd September, from 9:30am until 2:00pm.

We're looking for donations of:
🍰 Homemade or shop-bought cakes
🎁 Tombola prizes
🛍️ Items for our bric-a-brac table

Every donation helps us raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and is greatly appreciated.

Come along for coffee, cake, a chat, and some fundraising fun. We'd love to see as many people as possible there!
