Justice begins with the truth! We can't protect human rights if we don't protect the people documenting the wrongs.

• Freedom of Expression: This is a fundamental right (Article 19 of the UDHR) that enables all other rights.
• Evidence is Power: International courts and human rights bodies rely on journalistic documentation to prosecute war crimes and abuses.
• Anti-Impunity: Attacking journalists is often a calculated tactic to ensure that abuses can continue without international intervention.

Journalists should never be a target, but they are because those abusing human rights know that we cannot defend what we cannot see happening.

Last year was the deadliest on record for the press. We must fight to ensure truth does not become a casualty too.

International Women’s Day is Cancelled!

The women and girls of Afghanistan are living in a human rights graveyard.

Not only are the Taliban forcing young girls into early marriages and forced pregnancies,

Women with toothache aren't even allowed to see a dentist because of the strict rules banning men from treating women.

Girls can’t even get an education past age 12, and going to university is illegal.

Women can’t visit a park, be heard on radio or be seen with their head uncovered.

Anyone with an education has already left the country,

Doctors, midwives, nurses and health workers are leaving as fast as possible,

This means deaths in childbirth and infant mortality is some of the highest in the world.

If female doctors were still in the country, getting to see one is even harder now that females are banned from travelling anywhere without a male chaperone.

The way they are being treated is a crime against humanity.

Human rights do more than protect you from injustice,

They secure the space to thrive.

The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognises that dignity is more than survival.

It includes the right to work with fair pay, the right to rest and leisure, the right to education, the right to healthcare, the right to social security, and the right to an adequate standard of living.

The foundations of human development!

The right to work means more than employment, it means opportunity, fairness, and protection from exploitation.

The right to education unlocks potential and breaks cycles of poverty.

The right to healthcare safeguards life and wellbeing.

The right to rest recognises that human beings are not machines, they are flesh and blood with feelings and emotions.

And the right social security… because sickness and vulnerability should not lead to destitution.

Never forget that human dignity includes opportunity.

Understanding these rights matters because they shape everyday life, in workplaces, schools, hospitals, and homes.

If you don’t know your rights, you can't protect them!

At Justice Upheld we see the human cost of child exploitation behind the headlines.

Children coerced into carrying drugs across county borders.

Children manipulated into s*xual exploitation through emotional control.

Children criminalised for crimes they were groomed into committing.

What is sometimes dismissed as naughty kids or teens going off the rails, is sometimes structured, strategic, often invisible exploitation.

Warning signs can include:

🚩 Sudden behavioural shifts,
🚩 Unexplained money or gifts,
🚩 Frequent missing episodes,
🚩 Multiple phones, or travel to unfamiliar areas.
🚩 Are they lost, confused or anxious?
🚩 Do they appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

Child exploitation is a human rights issue.

It demands accountability, trauma-informed safeguarding, and stronger community awareness.

If you work in education, social care, policing, healthcare, local government, or the charity sector, you’ll already know this is everyone’s responsibility to look out for, but many people remain unaware of the signs.

If you are working to combat child exploitation, or want to stand up for human rights, please share this post, then let’s connect!

Thank you! 🙏🏼

Blasphemy laws in Pakistan which often result in a death sentence, are being weaponised to settle personal disputes.

Sometimes against Muslims, but more often than not, against religious minorities in the country.

Justice Upheld defends the human rights of those with nowhere else to turn.

One woman confronted child marriage—and refused to back down.

In Malawi, traditional leader Theresa Kachindamoto used her authority to tackle one of the country’s most entrenched practices: forced and child marriage. Over just a few years, she annulled around 850 child marriages, many involving girls as young as 12 to 15. But ending the marriages was only the first step.

Kachindamoto ensured the girls received school supplies, support, and protection so they wouldn’t be forced into marriage again. She promoted education as a real alternative to early marriage, giving girls a future beyond survival.

She also removed village leaders who allowed child marriages and enforced strict bans across hundreds of villages under her authority.

Her work earned global recognition—from UNICEF and UN Women to major media outlets—and the nickname “Terminator of Child Marriages,” which she proudly embraces. Yet her courage came at a cost: resistance, threats, and pushback even from her own community. She didn’t step back.

Today, her leadership is celebrated worldwide as a model for protecting children’s rights—proof that lasting change often begins outside government offices.

No political title.
No silence in the face of pressure.
Just courage—and lives transformed forever.

Hundreds of Venezuelan political prisoners are being released!

Many of them from detention centres that have become infamous among human-rights advocates for their abuse of inmates.

Many people are still feeling the repression of their human rights in Iran right now.

According to IranWire, was injured and arrested on Saturday, January 3, 2026, near Ilam Hospital. Faezeh Rashidi had gone to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ilam to donate blood to the injured, but was targeted by the weapons of the Islamic Republic’s security forces. Despite being wounded, she was taken into custody and as of the time of this report, no information has been released regarding her place of detention or her physical condition.

Based on reports, following doctors’ calls in Ilam for citizens to donate blood for injured protesters, Faezeh Rashidi travelled from the city of Badreh to Ilam Hospital and was shot by security forces near the hospital.

According to images circulated on social media on January 4, security forces violently raided Imam Khomeini Hospital in Malekshahi, Ilam Province, in an apparent attempt to abduct individuals injured during recent protests who had been transferred there for medical treatment. The footage shows security agents entering the hospital, firing live ammunition and tear gas, forcing open doors, storming patient rooms, and assaulting people inside using batons and military equipment.

Furthermore, reports by human rights organizations indicate that Iran’s judiciary has repeatedly used the denial of medical care as a punitive tool. Such practices constitute a serious violation of detainees’ fundamental rights, including the right to health, humane treatment, and protection from cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment under international human rights law. This systematic deprivation places the health and lives of injured detainees in grave and immediate danger.

The 6th of February is the annual International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation.

Female cutting is a barbaric practice that must stop.

Maasai women are fighting to create an alternative rite of passage to female circumcision, in which girls participate in a 3 day sessions about s*x education, self-confidence & their human rights.

We were inspired to see the joy and agency in a Maasai girl seen here wearing the beautiful jewellery she created.

May she win her fight!

The CPJ do some great work.

Today marks Philippine journalist Frenchie Mae Cumpio’s 6th year behind bars. CPJ and more than 90 media groups around the world have called on Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to “right the wrong” and reverse Cumpio’s unjust conviction.

In a joint letter to Marcos coordinated by CPJ and the coalition, press clubs and media organizations worldwide have condemned Cumpio’s recent conviction on the charge of financing terrorism as “unbelievable and revolting.” The 27-year-old journalist was sentenced to between 12 and 18 years in prison.

“Journalists around the world are standing together with Frenchie Mae Cumpio because an attack on one journalist is an attack on all of us,” said CPJ’s Asia-Pacific Director Beh Lih Yi. “Her conviction sets a dangerous precedent in the Philippines by using counter-terrorism laws to silence the press, putting the country — a democracy and this year’s chair of ASEAN — in the same league as countries like Russia and Myanmar.”
