Not long to go 🫡

We’re another week closer to this year’s event, so here’s group number two in our countdown.

Returning for their third year with us is the General Service Infantry LHG including Private Bennett of YouTube fame.

The group has a dedicated impression that shows the backbone of the British Army, the humble Tommy. Come and see the group in our larger British sector at this year’s show.

The General Service Infantry supports the views expressed in this video.
Firstly, we would like to thank the organisers, volunteers, traders, entertainers, and fellow reenactors who worked hard to make the Great Central Railway 1940s Weekend possible. 👏

However, we also believe that constructive feedback is important if events are to continue to grow and improve. As a group that spent the weekend engaging with the public, answering questions, and educating visitors, we feel there are areas where the event could be strengthened for reenactors, traders, and visitors alike.

💬 Feedback is not an attack. 📈 Improvement helps events grow. 🤝 Working together benefits everyone.

We remain committed to supporting 1940s events and living history and hope that organisers, reenactors, and visitors can work together to ensure these events continue to thrive in the years ahead.

What a brilliant weekend at the Great Central Railway 1940s Weekend! 🚂🇬🇧

It was great speaking with members of the public and sharing our WW2 infantry and medical displays, including the equipment, weapons, and medical items used during the war. We always enjoy helping bring history to life and chatting with people who share an interest in living history.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk to us over the weekend and a huge thank you to Fire by Order for joining us this weekend. Also, a special thanks to Peter James Chesterton and Dave Bourgault for joining us and keeping us company throughout the event!

We had a brilliant time and can’t wait for the next one!

A fantastic weekend for the group at Melton Mowbray!

The General service infantry team had a brilliant time bringing history to life with both our World War II Leicestershire Regiment infantry display and our Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service display. It was great to see so many members together across the weekend, sharing knowledge, stories, and a passion for keeping living history alive.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, supported the displays, and spent time with us throughout the event, it really means a lot to the whole group. Events like these are what make all the hard work worthwhile, and we can’t wait for the next one!

At Thoresby Hall, (1940s Spirit of Wartime Sherwood) the General Service Infantry presented a detailed look at the life of the British infantryman during the Second World War, alongside our ATS and QAIMNS displays.

Visitors learned about the important duties carried out by the ATS, including communications, driving, and supporting anti-aircraft operations, while the QAIMNS display highlighted the dedication of military nurses who treated and cared for wounded soldiers throughout the war. Battlefield medical equipment, uniforms, and period items helped bring these stories to life.

A special thank you to the ATS women Imogen Parker Diane Parker who joined us and helped us to bring the display and history alive.

🪖 GSI is almost set up at Thoresby Hall! 🪖

The team has arrived and we’re getting our British infantry display ready for the Spirit of Sherwood 1940s Weekend.
Over the next two days we’ll be bringing a snapshot of wartime army life to the historic grounds of Thoresby Hall, including field equipment, rations, personal kit, and living history displays inspired by the British soldier of the Second World War.

The setting here is perfect — surrounded by woodland and countryside, it’s easy to imagine wartime training exercises taking place across the estate.

If you’re visiting this weekend, make sure to come and find the General Service Infantry and have a chat with the team.
See you all this weekend!

🇬🇧✨ Happy VE Day 81 from the General Service Infantry! ✨🇬🇧
Today we remember the bravery, sacrifice, and spirit of the generation who saw the end of war in Europe on 8th May 1945. From soldiers on the front line to families at home, VE Day marked a moment of relief, celebration, and remembrance. 🌹
As living historians, we’re proud to help keep these stories alive for future generations.
“We’ll meet again…” 🎶
Lest We Forget. ❤️

🎄 Merry Christmas from the General Service Infantry 🎄

As Christmas is upon us, everyone at the General Service Infantry would like to wish our members, supporters, friends, families, fellow reenactors, and the wider community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This time of year gives us a chance to reflect—not only on the year gone by, but also on the sacrifices made by those who served before us. As a group dedicated to preserving and sharing their stories, we remain proud to honour their memory and educate future generations through living history.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the year, attended our events, donated to our causes, and helped us raise vital funds for veterans and their families. Your continued support means more than words can say.

We wish you all a peaceful Christmas, good health, and happiness, and we look forward to seeing many of you again in the year ahead.

Lest We Forget.
