Ramsey 1940s Weekend!

Our Leicestershire Regiment infantry display gave visitors the chance to learn about the equipment used by British soldiers during the Second World War and what everyday life was like for an infantryman.

Our QAIMNS display recreated a medical field hospital, giving visitors an insight into the equipment used and the important role nurses played in caring for wounded soldiers.

We were also joined by some ladies representing the ATS, who spent the weekend chatting with visitors and sharing information about the role of the Auxiliary Territorial Service and the different jobs women carried out during the war.

We were also joined by the Irish Guards with a White Scout Car, which made a great addition to the weekend.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat and took an interest in what we do. And a huge thank you to the organisers of Ramsey 1940s Weekend and Sherman Dakota for putting on such a brilliant event and for all their hard work.

We had a brilliant weekend and hope to see you all again!

What a fantastic weekend at Operation Market Harborough!

Throughout the event, our Leicestershire Regiment infantry brought history to life with drill displays and demonstrations of a British soldier's daily routine, while our QAIMNS nurses recreated daily life in a field hospital, caring for patients, carrying out everyday duties, hanging out the washing, and even enjoying a game of dominoes during quieter moments. It was a pleasure to bring our Leicestershire Regiment and QAIMNS displays to the event, sharing the stories, uniforms, equipment, and experiences of those who served during the Second World War.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us, we loved meeting so many people and sharing our passion for living history.

Here are a few photos of our displays from Rails to Victory 1940s Weekend.

Our Leicestershire Regiment infantry display showcases the uniforms, equipment, and everyday life of the British soldier during the Second World War. Alongside it, our QAIMNS (Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service) medical display features period uniforms, medical equipment, and highlights the essential work carried out by military nurses in caring for the wounded.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to have a look and chat with us. We hope you've enjoyed learning more about the people, equipment, and stories about the front lines.

A big thank you to the organisers of Rails to Victory Jamie Darlington for putting on another fantastic event and for all their hard work in making the weekend such a success. Thank you Nathan Flavell, Charis Hawkley and Oscar Hawkley for joining GSI this weekend we have really enjoyed having you on our pitch this weekend.
