The Bodie Hodges Foundation Supporting families bereaved of a child 💙 Helping them to rebuild and remember✨

The Bodie Hodges Foundation is a Leicestershire based charity that supports families bereaved of a child, aged 18 and under. The charity was created in 2013 following the death of Bodie, to provide services that support families as they grieve. We have a clear vision of how we want our services to develop and strive to create supportive child bereavement community. We provide a range of profession

al bereavement services that support families at the darkest time of their grief, but we also help to empower families that have been bereaved of a child. We rely on voluntary donations to provide our services free of charge so that no bereaved families are left to grieve alone. Bodies Bereavement Services - Families can access 1-1 early therapeutic support and counselling services for up to 2 years after the death of their child. We also run a range of peer support groups including 'Chips and a Chat' our newest support group, created solely for bereaved dads. Bodie's Treasured Memory Bags
We provide a bag filled with grief resources free of charge tom families following the death of a sibling or for those born after the death. We have 3 bags for ages 3-10 and 11-16 years and a sensory SEND bag that can be requested via our website. Sibling Support - gentle 1-1 sessions with siblings at Bodie’s House, which help them to understand their grief and support memory making. Families can also access a host of free grief resources including workbooks and videos to offer additional support.

Extending our bereavement support to include families bereaved of a young person aged 18 - 25 is something we have been working towards for a very long time.

This change means that more families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland can now access our early therapeutic specialist bereavement services.

Support that we know can make a profound difference in the most difficult moments of their life.

💜 💜 💜

Bodie’s Mummy and our CEO has shared:

“This expansion has only been possible because of the generosity and dedication of our incredible London Marathon runners. Their commitment has opened the door for more families to receive the care they deserve.

And we’re not stopping here.

With continued financial support, we hope one day to offer our services to families bereaved of a child of any age.

We are always dreaming of the next step, always working towards the next milestone. The charity sector can be tough, but moments like this, where our vision and hard work meet, remind us why we do what we do.

To our supporters, our community, and our team, thank you”.

💗 Many people believe that all you need to do to show you want to be a donor is to join the NHS Organ Donation Register or carry a donor card.

🩷 However, if you die in circumstances where you could become an organ donor your family would be approached by specialist nurses and asked to support your decision to donate.

💗 If you die without registering to donate your organs, medical professionals would need to ask your next of kin to make the decision for you.

🩷 It can be a big burden for families to make such an important decision at such a difficult time.

💗 Less than half of families approached about donation agree to donate a relative’s organs if they are unaware of their relative’s decision to be a donor.

🩷 When a family says no to donation, someone waiting for a transplant may miss out on their only opportunity for a transplant which could save their life.

Whatever you decide, please talk to your loved ones.

The early days following the death of a child can feel lonely and isolating, and families can be given a lot of advice about how to feel and what to do.

Hannah shares how important receiving support from us has been for her...

"Having a place of support that is outside of family and friends is very important and has helped me in taking time to process my grief in a way that is best for me and not what others may think is best.

Just to say thank you for the time I was able to have with you and for providing a service that is very much needed for families who are going through the hardest and most devastating time. Thank you."
