First Step is an organisation run for male survivors and their supporters. This might mean you talk about past and present relationships.

We provide free confidential services to male survivors of sexual abuse and their supporters. We provide free confidential services to male survivors of sexual abuse and their supporters living in the city of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to enable survivors to make the “First Step” towards feeling less isolated through increased personal power to makes choices. At the core of all “First S

tep” services is the principle that each individual has the right to respect, to be believed, and to an environment that is safe. It is a place where you can talk to someone who is not involved in your life; someone who has no preference concerning your decisions. First Step is not about telling you what to do or how to run your life, but it is about exploring your difficulties with another person. You may begin to turn your thoughts and feelings into actions that help you come to terms with your experiences and make new choices.

Today we received the fantastic news that First Step has been successfully reaccredited and will retain the LimeCulture Independent Accreditation Programme ‘Quality Mark’ for achieving the Quality Standards for Services Supporting Male Victims/Survivors of Sexual Violence for a further two years.

The Quality Mark demonstrates the commitment of everyone at First Step to the continuous improvement of the quality of support for male victims/survivors and we'd like to say thank to everyone who helps us achieve this.

It is fitting that on the same day we also received this feedback from one of our clients, a further indication of just how valuable this service is.

It was an absolute pleasure this week to catch up with James and Isaak, who between them have run seven marathons and raised thousands of pounds for First Step.

Hearing from them about the time, effort and dedication involved in both the training for and running of the marathons was truly awe-inspiring and from all of us at First Step we would like to say a heartfelt thank you.

On Sunday James ran his second marathon in Manchester, raising money for First Step and Rotherham Abuse Counselling Service.

We are so grateful to James for undertaking this challenge, not just for raising funds but also for raising awareness.

Two marathons done, two more to go! Next one is in Belfast on 3rd May so not much rest time in between!

Warmth, empathy, compassion, authenticity.
Just a few of the words which came up over and over again during our Away Day on Saturday and which really highlight how everyone involved in First Step really cares about the charity and everything it represents.

It was such a great opportunity for clients, counsellors, trustees and staff to come together and reflect on the journey to date, and as we approach our 30th anniversary in 2027, discuss our hopes and plans for the future.

From 1 April 2026, patients registered with GP practices in Leicestershire will have access to new same day GP appointments during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. These appointments will offer longer consultation times and provide more consistent availability across the county, helping people get the right care quickly for urgent but non life threatening health needs.

These new appointments will replace urgent care centre services previously provided in Coalville, Enderby, Hinckley, Market Harborough, Lutterworth and Melton.

This Sunday James will be running the Great Welsh Marathon, the first of four marathons between now and the end of May to raise both money and awareness for ourselves and Rotherham Abuse Counselling Service.
