It was a pleasure for our Project Coordinator, Beena Solanki, and Gambling Harms Engagement Worker, Salma Limbada, to represent Shama Women’s Centre at the Family Fun Day at the African Caribbean Centre on Thursday 6th August 2026.
The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with local families and communities while raising awareness of important health research, including EXCEED and Dementia Care in South Asian Communities.
We also had meaningful conversations about gambling harms, including the impact gambling can have on individuals, families and communities, as well as raising awareness of the different types of gambling.
A special thank you to our Health Ambassadors, Hafsah Mohammad and Meera Bay, for joining us and helping encourage greater participation from ethnic minority communities.
Hafsah shared: “I was really pleased to contribute, as historically, some populations have been widely underrepresented in genetic research. I am thankful for the opportunity to raise awareness and contribute to finding better treatments that work well for everyone.”
