‘Cycles and Suffragettes’ hosted events in 2011 and 2012 to raise awareness of the link between cycling and the emancipation of women - and to have a fun cycling event. The events encouraged wearing period costume and included a blue plaque ride pointing out places where Leicesters suffragettes have been celebrated, a flash mob which included a rousing speech by Julia Wood in the manner of a suffr

agette and followed by films and talks including a talk by the grandson of Alice Hawkins, our most eminent suffragette.

For those who have been on a Cycles and Suffragettes ride and seen the blue plaque for Mary Linwood, an internationally renowned embroideress in the 1800's, you may be interested to know there is currently an exhibition of her work.
Ruth Singer has curated an exhibition at Leicester Museum of the works of Mary Linwood which runs until the 22nd February.
