Menphys “Caring for local children and young people with disabilities…supporting the family.”

Menphys was founded in 1969 to support children and young people with disabilities and their families – our work is just as necessary and important today. Menphys provides a range of services, some of them in partnership with Leicestershire County Council. The Menphys Special Outreach Service supports children and young people aged 0 – 19 and their families. Supports Saturday clubs offering a wide

range of sport and leisure activities

☀️ What an amazing summer we’ve had so far in our community!

From the Cosby Yarn Bomb, to live music at Blaby Funday and GlastonBlaby, creative kids’ crafts at SnapDragon, and an amazing fundraiser at the Cricket Charity Day. It’s been a summer full of fun, laughter and community spirit.

It’s been so wonderful to see our communities come together, have fun and show their support for Menphys.

A huge thank you to all the amazing volunteers who have joined us throughout the summer. Your time, energy and support mean so much to us. Without you, we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do to support disabled children, young adults and their families.❤️

We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings!

We’ve had such a lovely, sunny sensory garden session today! ☀️

Today, we had a scavenger hunt garden day in our new sensory garden and the children loved it.

They used their finding skills to explore the garden and search for all the bugs hiding around, as well as enjoying our different sensory trays. 🪲

❤️ We had a parent tell us, “This summer at Menphys has been so good for both of them.”

This is so special for us to receive. We know that summer at home can be difficult for some of our families, which is why we provide our summer calendar. We’re so glad that our Hub has become a safe space for them to be their selves and not have to worry. We are so glad to hear that their summer has been enjoyable. 😊

We’re looking forward to our last week of summer… although we really don’t want it to end!

What a lovely morning we’ve had at our community table! ☀️

Today, we had a jewellery making session and it was so lovely to see all the families getting involved. It was wonderful to see their creativity come to life as they made bracelets and necklaces for themselves and their families. ✨

❤️ One parent said:

“It’s been great that my daughter can come here every Tuesday and make something different. The small groups are perfect for her.”

This quote is so special to us. Summer can be a difficult time for families, so knowing that our services are supporting them, bringing families together and creating a safe space means so much to us. ❤️

Summer is nearly over and we can’t wait to spend these last few weeks with you all.

“What a day!” 🐒🦒🐯

Last Friday, our families enjoyed a fantastic trip to Twycross Zoo!

After everyone had checked in, families set off to explore the zoo before meeting at the Splash Zone for lunch. The children were full of stories about the animals they had seen.

Our team was there throughout the day to offer support and reassurance whenever it was needed, helping families feel confident and able to enjoy the experience together.

✨One parent told us:

“Thanks, Menphys. I wouldn’t be able to come on a day trip without your support.”

Another shared:

“My son has mobility difficulties, and this trip encouraged him to walk around. We would not have had the confidence to do a trip like this without Menphys.”

💙 Summer Sensory Fun at Menphys! 💙

We’re now well over halfway through the summer holidays, and our Sensory Days are giving families a safe and welcoming space to run, play, connect and make friends. 🌈

One of the loveliest things for us to see is not only the children having fun and letting off some steam, but parents and carers building connections and friendships too. There’s something really special about bringing families together who understand and support one another. 💛

Yesterday was another brilliant Sensory Day, filled with plenty of playing, exploring, laughter and fun! 🥰

We had such a lovely time and hope every family who joined us enjoyed it just as much as we did.

📢 FINAL TICKETS AVAILABLE – FREE DLA & PIP SUPPORT CLINIC IN MARKET HARBOROUGH 📢

Our FREE DLA & PIP Support Clinic in Market Harborough is taking place this Monday, 10th August, and there are just a few final appointments available.

If you’re struggling to complete a Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) application for your child or young person aged under 25, our one-to-one support appointments are here to help.

Funded by Market Harborough Building Society, these FREE sessions are available to families living in Market Harborough and the surrounding areas and are designed to help you complete a new DLA or PIP application with confidence.

Appointments are with Sarah, SEND Specialist and Advocate, who can provide practical guidance and support throughout the application process.

Family Foundations is a Menphys programme supporting children and young people who have experienced care, alongside the families who care for them.

During a recent canal boat trip with Peter Le Marchant Trust, six families who have experienced care and had never met before stepped aboard together.

It was incredibly special to watch the families relax, laugh and play together on the boat, while their parents talked openly, shared experiences and supported one another.

❤️Parents said:
“What a great activity to bring families together.”

“It’s great to meet other parents who get it!”

This is exactly why Family Foundations is so important. It was much more than a canal boat trip, it gave children the opportunity to build positive connections and helped parents feel understood, accepted and less alone.

What a wonderful day we had today at our Bath and Bubbles Sensory Garden Session 🫧

It was lovely to see the children and families engaging with the sounds of the sound bath and chimes. The children were calm, relaxed, and learning deep breathing techniques.

❤️ We heard parents say:

"These sessions build confidence in my child. They are finding it much easier to make friends."

"I love the variety this summer. All of my children can access something they enjoy."

Hearing feedback like this means so much to us. We love that our services provide a welcoming space where families can come together, have fun, and enjoy their day without any additional worries.

Making new friends can be scary, so knowing that the children and young people feel safe and comfortable enough to build friendships at our Hub is truly amazing.

We can't wait to enjoy the last two weeks of summer with everyone! ☀️

During the summer, we have lots of events and services taking place to support disabled children, young adults, and their families and make their summer more enjoyable❤️

We also have plenty of lovely things happening at our cafés and charity shops in Wigston and South Wigston. It was wonderful to welcome Aneeta and Jasmine for lunch on their first visit. Aneeta said:

“Thank you for such a welcoming lunch and for all the support.”

Why not come along and try one of our delicious cakes with a coffee, or treat yourself to something from our lunch menu. Everyone is welcome with a friendly and inclusive environment.

What a lovely day we had today enjoying animal crafts with our community✨

It was wonderful to see families getting creative with felt, glitter, and other craft materials. The children loved exploring the different textures and choosing what felt right for them. Every single creation was amazing!

❤️ We asked one parent how the holidays were going, and they said:

"We're trying to plan as much as possible because the structure really works for us."

We find it's so special when families find a home at Menphys and can rely on us to help make their summer the best it can be. Hearing comments like this reminds us just how much families look forward to coming here and how meaningful that support is to them.
