Mindfulness meditation, traditionally a Buddhist practice, is becoming very popular in the West. Contemporary practice of mindfulness adopts a more secular approach and is now being taught within the NHS, schools and many business environments such as Google. It is widely recognised as being a very effective approach to developing well-being, good health and happiness. In its simplest form Mindful

ness is a way of paying attention to yourself, other people and your environment in the present moment. It allows us to cope with interfering, often negative, thoughts that get in the way during our normal day-to-day activities. Compassion meditation builds on this and teaches us how to relate to ourselves and others with kindness, patience and understanding. Mindfulness and Compassion meditation can be practised by anyone whatever their cultural background.
