This is Penny, a Guide from 1st Hinckley Guides. Penny received the fantastic news she has been selected to join Amplify, a youth steering group that puts girls voices at the heart of everything Girlguiding do.
Amplify started in 2022 and each year 30 girls aged 12-18 are selected to form the panel from all over the UK. Their job is to feedback on the work that we're doing, to make sure that girls’ voices are heard and consulted at the highest levels and use their unique lived experience to shape the organisation as they represent young members from all over the UK.
Penny will soon be attending a briefing weekend before her role starts in September, when she will attend meetings held nationally to give opinions and ideas.
Penny's unit leaders are so proud of her putting herself forward and being successfully selected, this is a huge achievement at the age of 13.

Watermead division have been busy over the last term with Brownies and Rainbows in Anstey making up their own games and creating a canvas for Sir David Attenborough's 100th Birthday. The Rainbows also had a visitor talk to them about bees and wasps and were lucky enough to be able to hold a wasps nest.
In Thurmaston Guides spent an evening at the LOPC learning water safety and boating skills whilst the Brownies spent time decorating their noticeboard to make their HQ look nice.
Huge congratulations to Janice at Thurmaston Brownies on her Chief Commissioners Award and goodbye and thank you to Emily from Birstall Rainbows who's stepped down as a leader with the unit but remains part of Birstall and Bradgate district as a supporting leader.
Across in Newtown Linford we also said a sad goodbye and massive thank you to Hilary (Brown Owl) who has finished running Brownies after 61 years since taking over from her mum, and Natasha (Snowy Owl) who has assisted her for the last 8 years.

Uppingham Brownies have enjoyed a busy term working on their Camp stage 2 Skills Builder. Activities included putting up tents and learning how to light a fire safely, of which they used the best one to cook s'mores. They also used both their creativity and imagination skills to complete the Room in a Box UMA.
1st Cottesmore Brownies had an I (girls) can do anything evening where they invited prominent local female figures to join them and talk about what they do. They welcomed two female Police Officers, both named Holly, along with the first female Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness and the first female Oakham Town Crier, Kelsey.
Rutland Rangers, Uppingham Guides and 7th Uppingham Guides have enjoyed a fun filled week at the Poacher International Jamboree in Lincoln where they've been able to try lots of exciting activities and no doubt made lots of new friends.
