It would be ideal for you if you are enthusiastic about digital and would like to help over 50s living in Leicester to get online and to support them to improve their digital skills. I would like to give a big shout out to all those wonderful volunteers that worked across the Thurncourt Neighbourhood Scheme during the Pandemic.

During 3 months alone those amazing volunteers sorted through, packed and delivered over 791 food parcels to the most in need in their community!

Not only did they organise the distribution of the parcels some volunteers actually grew salads to give to families in the packs!

Volunteering in your community brings so many benefits for your locality. Well done to everyone involved. You are AMAZING!!

Leicester Ageing Together would like to say a huge thank you to all who enthusiastically supported our ‘Vegetable Seed Drive’ and got growing!
The vegetable seed drive formed part of our campaign, which aimed to reduce social isolation and loneliness amongst adults during Covid-19 lockdown. We purchased sunflower seeds and other vegetable seeds were gifted by Public Health, via The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). The seeds were distributed through Leicester Ageing Together activity packs.
The response from local people, organisations and groups, who championed the seed drive, was simply amazing. Over 50 hours of volunteering time was gifted by local people and 16 organisations across Leicester distributed over 1,500 packets of seeds to local communities.

Working in partnership with Leicestershire Rutland Sports (LRS) where Community Connector Bharti from from Leicester Ageing Together had the participants and LRS had the Postural Stability Instructors; a couple of Zoom sessions on Resistance Band exercise were organised and all the participants loved the exercises. The sessions had 35+ participants. All wanted to continue the sessions, so with an experienced volunteer, we started regular zoom sessions to keep people fit and healthy. A win win for all.

Another example of partnership working was the distribution of LRS Activity bags (see the picture)

Feedback from one of he participants via WhatsApp:
‘Thank you Bhartiben for this Activity bag healthy at home you gave me last year I been using it. It really helps me beanbags helps me with my arms and shoulders they were really stiff so I keep throwing and catching. Resistance band help me stretches. Active home booklets help me with exercise. Doing exercise and yoga on zoom made my knees more flexible. I am more active in lockdown then before thanks to ageing group.'
