She’s a Fighter: Ishani's family Takes on Leicestershire 3 Peaks for Children’s Cancer Ward

At just three years old, Ishani, who loves Bluey, riding her bike, and spending time with her siblings and family, was diagnosed with Leukaemia. After a rushed night to our Children’s A&E Department, further tests showed that the cancer had not spread to Ishani’s organs or brain, but her bone marrow showed a high number of cancer cells. Ishani’s treatment began immediately, but the treatment was invasive for Ishani, making her frightened of every visit she had.

Ishani’s dad said, “She’s a fighter; seeing a three-year-old go through this is heartbreaking. But she keeps smiling, she keeps going — and so will we.” Although her journey has brought challenges, she's surrounded by endless love, strength, and hope.

𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 £𝟐𝟕,𝟎𝟎𝟎, by taking on the Leicestershire 3 Peaks challenge, in support of the Children’s Cancer Ward that has cared for Ishani throughout her treatment.

We’re delighted to share that we were nominated for a Leicester's Hospitals UHL Recognition Award in the Outstanding Contribution Award (Team) – Non-clinical category 🎉💙

This nomination recognises the incredible contribution of our team during a period of significant change, challenge and growth, and the difference we make for patients, families and colleagues across our hospitals.

In 2024/25, we helped deliver £3.4 million in charitable grants to support patient welfare, colleague wellbeing, equipment, research, training, and the enhancement of hospital environments, made possible by the generosity of our supporters, fundraisers, partners, and communities.

From supporting the reconfiguration of the Chemotherapy Suite and the SWAN Rooms, to parent facilities at CICU, medical equipment, volunteer services and staff wellbeing spaces, we’re proud of what we achieve when we work together.

Thank you to Cosby Golf Club's Captain, Gary Henry, for raising funds for Ward 27 at Leicester Children's Hospital.

Gary, of Charles Henry and Sons, has surpassed his £11,000 fundraising goal and will soon be able to see the THOR PBM machine delivered to the children's cancer ward. With the extra funds raised, colleagues can use the money to order additional specialist attachments.

The therapy, also known as Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to reduce pain, swelling, inflammation and promote healing at a cellular level.

Gary said: "Through my fundraising, I have been raising funds for a machine called the THOR PBM. This machine will be used for children who are undergoing chemotherapy and are struggling with chemo symptoms like mouth ulcers, which prevent them from eating and drinking, reducing their quality of life.

Thank you also for having Dr Fox and Lydia Sharman-Thompson along for Captains Day at Cosby Golf Club. They especially loved dancing along to the 80's music.

Thank you Neil Patel and the EAVA FM Radio team for supporting Leicester Hospitals Charity and our hospital's Children’s Services.

Neil took on the challenge of hosting a 24-hour radio-thon, raising a fantastic £2,140 towards the purchase of a vein finder for our hospitals 👏

Vein finders are often used to help our clinical colleagues find veins in children and babies more easily and accurately. This can make the process of taking blood quicker and less stressful for younger patients, while also reducing anxiety for their parents and carers. Being able to fund more of these pieces of equipment helps improve the experience of spending time in our hospitals for our most vulnerable patients and their families.

Neil and the High Sheriff of Leicestershire recently joined us in our Children's Outpatient Services to see the incredible difference Neil's fundraising has made for our Children's Services team. They were able to see how the impact of this donation goes beyond the equipment itself, and how it will help our teams provide a more positive experience for children and their families at what can otherwise be an anxious time.

At the beginning of August, we had the pleasure of welcoming Seb back to Leicester Royal Infirmary for a very special visit and cheque presentation after completing his incredible fundraising challenge. 💙

By taking on an amazing 175km walk from Leicester to London, Seb raised over £2,190 towards a specialised wheelchair for Ward 17, helping the team continue to provide the best possible care for patients with severe spinal injuries and limited mobility.

Speaking about why he took on the challenge, Seb said: "I wanted to leave my mark and give back to the amazing city that I am proud to be a part of."

It was lovely to thank Seb in person and show our appreciation for his dedication, generosity and support. His fundraising will make a real difference to patients and staff on Ward 17.

A huge thank you to all family, friends and neighbours who came along to support Mandy's fundraiser. With tons of activities, from the raffle, games, yard sale to guessing the weight of the cake and the name of the cuddly toy, the day was set for success with every bit of fun raising money for our hospitals.

After her journey with cancer, Mandy wanted to find a meaningful way to say thank you to the hospitals that cared for her during one of the most difficult times in her life. Through Mandy's Mission, she's raising funds for the hospital's areas of greatest need, helping to support other patients and their families receiving care in hospital.

Thanks to everyone's generosity on the day, Mandy has now raised £𝟰𝟯𝟴 towards her £1,000 target.

Lord Mayor of Leicester visits Leicester's Hospitals

The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Kulwinder Singh Johal, recently visited the Renal Department and research facilities at Glenfield Hospital, as well as the Leicester Diabetes Centre at Leicester General Hospital.

The visits provided an opportunity to see first-hand the outstanding work taking place in kidney care, diabetes, research and innovation, and how investment can help improve long-term health outcomes for patients across Leicester and beyond.

These areas are particularly important to the Lord Mayor as Leicester Hospitals Charity is one of his chosen charities for the 2026–2027 Lord Mayor’s Appeal, alongside (MLSS).

The Lord Mayor is keen to support projects focused on prevention, early diagnosis, diabetes and kidney health, helping make a lasting difference for future generations.

A huge thank you to Bernie Stribling, Assistant Director of International and External Business Development from Leicester Diabetes Centre and Dr Rupert Major from the Kidney Services Team for hosting the visits.

Local cycling group Riders of Shaam took on their annual ride challenge, riding their bikes over the course of five days. They started on Sat 11 July this year, setting off from Munich. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟯𝟱𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮.

So far, the ride has raised £𝟯,𝟭𝟬𝟵 for our Parent Facilities Appeal, but donations are still coming in.
