Take on the leap for every heartbeat, this year, by doing our Big Abseil! Change to: Take a leap for every heartbeat to mark World Heart Day!

Last year, our Business 2 Business Team took on our annual Big Abseil at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, with the biggest Corporate Team the abseil has ever seen!

Rumaysah, from Business 2 Business, said, "Taking part in the Big Abseil was an incredible experience and something really memorable for everyone involved... Going as a large group from Business 2 Business made it even more specialโ€”there was a real team spirit, with everyone motivating each other and sharing the experience together. It brought people closer and gave everyone a shared goal to work towards."

This year the Big Abseil is marking World Heart Day and raising vital funds for heart services across our hospitals. We're looking for business teams who are ready to take on our even bigger abseil this year, so get your team together, and sign up today!

Weโ€™re delighted to announce that Sunita Patel has been appointed as Director of Leicester Hospitals Charity. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™

Sunita officially stepped into the role on Monday 15 June, having previously served as Acting Head of Charity. Since joining us in 2023, she has played a vital role in strengthening our fundraising work, building new partnerships and helping to highlight the difference charitable support makes across University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

This appointment marks an exciting new chapter as we continue working alongside our generous supporters, community groups, organisations and NHS colleagues to fund projects that go beyond NHS provision and improve care and experiences for patients, families and staff across our hospitals.

Sunita said: โ€œMy ambition is to make Leicester Hospitals Charity easier to support, easier to engage with and even more closely aligned to the priorities of UHL.โ€

We look forward to the positive impact Sunita will continue to bring as she leads the charity forward, helping us grow support and make an even greater difference across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Over the last couple of days, weโ€™ve been busy on-site at Leicester Royal Infirmary, refreshing our branding and increasing the visibility of our charity across our hospital.

These new design elements are helping to create a more engaging environment for patients, visitors, and staff. A huge thank you to our colleagues at Leicester's Hospitals for their support throughout the project, to Cubiquity Media for installing the artwork, and to Cite for helping to bring our vision to life.

Weโ€™ll share more photos as the project continues to take shape.

Thank you to M & O Group for their first team fundraiser of the year, a 500 Mile Bikeathon, completed entirely in their office over five days.

They raised a fantastic ยฃ1003 and finished with 707 miles!

This activity, along with others such as a World Cup sweepstake and skittles night, will raise funds for our Parent Facilities Appeal, helping to keep families close when it matters most.

Georgia Oโ€™Shea, Finance Assistant, said:

โ€œAs a proud Leicestershire business rooted in healthcare, weโ€™re honoured to support Leicester Hospitals Charity as our 2026 Charity of the Year. Their vital work for patients, families and NHS staff is more than admirable.

The Parent Facilities Appeal is especially close to our hearts, as every family deserves comfort and support during the most difficult of times. Thatโ€™s why all funds from our 500 Mile Bikeathon will be going towards this cause.

Weโ€™re excited to partner with the charity throughout the year and make a meaningful difference together.โ€

We are so grateful for the support from local businesses to help us fundraise and support our hospitals.

On Saturday, we held a Summer Celebration event to say a big โ€œthank youโ€ to some of our supporters and regular givers.

It was an opportunity to showcase some of the impact that our generous supporters have helped to fund. We also had some of the front-line colleagues talking to supporters about the impact that funds like regular and in-memory giving can have to patients, their families and to the staff who deliver the services.

Thanks to all the supporters who were able to attend and to our UHL colleagues who were able to share experiences and benefit from the ongoing support from the community.

Supporters were also able to find out about how the Charity is supporting the Trust to shape the future of your hospitals.

If you would like to help your local NHS hospital by becoming a regular giver, fundraising for us or taking part in one of our appeals, then get in touch with our team and we will help you get started. 's Hospitals

In May, we joined Dhirubhai, one of our dedicated community fundraisers, at his Dinner and Dance event.

Dhirubhai and his team earlier this year set out to fundraise ยฃ20,000 for our Neonatal Departments at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Leicester General Hospital.

Dhirubhai usually hosts events as a fundraiser, and his first event of the year was filled with performances that lifted people up from their seats, onto the dance floor, and also included speakers who were able to tell guests about their journey through our Neonatal Departments.

The funds raised will go towards purchasing equipment within the Neonatal Departments, such as cots, heated mattresses, warming lamps, and breast pumps. This equipment can help our youngest patients to regulate their temperature, support vital development, and reassure families during an incredibly difficult time.

Thank you to all of those who have supported Dhirubhai. You are helping to provide better care, greater comfort, and the best possible start for babies and their families when they need it most.

Thank you to the Leicester Tigers for hosting a patient and his family at a recent match.

Earlier this year, Finley had come into the Leicester Royal Infirmary for a routine surgery for his airway condition, known as Subglottic Stenosis. Due to complications, Finley suffered two cardiac arrests. For the next seven weeks, Finley stayed in our childrenโ€™s wards, including the Children's Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Finleyโ€™s mum, Megan, said, โ€œWe really appreciate all the amazing CICU team, especially ENT Consultant Mr Chilaf Peled, for what theyโ€™ve done for us. We wouldnโ€™t have got through it without them.โ€

During Finley's stay at the CICU, the Leicester Tigers came to visit some of our youngest patients, where Finley and his parents were able to meet some of the players and team members.

Finley had gotten a new Leicester Tigers top to be signed by the players. The players asked how mum and dad were both doing, and Megan mentioned how it makes such a difference to know that the players were there to visit the families and listen to their stories.

From that meeting, Finley, mum, and dad were all invited to watch the Leicester Tigers on Sunday, to make Finley's journey in recovery that much more special.

Megan said: โ€œIt was a lovely day for us all, and we really appreciate all that Leicester Tigers did to allow us to watch the game. Also, a thank you to Leicester Hospitals Charity for helping to arrange this for us.โ€

Thank you to the Leicester Tigers for your continued support of our hospitals and for going that extra mile.

This Volunteersโ€™ Week, weโ€™re celebrating our incredible volunteers who bring comfort and joy to patients across Leicester's Hospitals ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™

Our hospital library service runs weekly across our hospital sites, offering a wide selection of reading materials including fiction, non-fiction, word searches, crosswords, magazines and newspapers.

Thanks to your generous support, the service has been made more efficient with the introduction of three new library trolleys, which are lighter and easier to move through the wards.

Across three hospital sites, a dedicated group of volunteers bring this much-loved service to life. In the past year alone, they have handed out 933 books, magazines, newspapers and puzzles to patients.

Thank you to everyone who helps make this service possible and brings moments of comfort, distraction and joy to patients when they need it most. ๐Ÿ’™

As NatWest Leicester's Charity of the Year partner for 2026, we were invited to be part of the Team GB Baton Relay celebrations this week. Dr Fox and Asiya were there to cheer on the team and help both Leicester branches mark the occasion. Dr Fox certainly embraced the spotlight and got fully into the relay spirit.

NatWest's Team GB Baton Relay cyclists arrived at the Granby Street branch yesterday evening before continuing their journey from the East Park Road branch this morning. The Baton Relay is part of NatWest's partnership with Team GBโ€™s Olympic and Paralympic Teams. A huge well done to everyone taking part.

Following the medal presentation yesterday evening, NatWest colleagues, business partners and guests came together for a charity quiz night to support the team's fundraising goal of ยฃ7,500 for Leicester Hospitals Charity throughout the year.

We're delighted to be working alongside NatWest in 2026 and look forward to seeing the impact this partnership will have for patients, families and staff across our hospitals. Leicester's Hospitals

This Volunteersโ€™ Week, weโ€™re celebrating our incredible volunteers, like our amazing Buggy Drivers. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™ Leicester's Hospitals

Thanks to you, hospital visits are easier for patients like Guy.

Your generosity has funded three electric hospital buggies across our hospital sites, helping patients travel safely and comfortably between car parks, wards and clinics. In the last year alone, our volunteer Buggy Drivers have completed over 10,000 buggy trips across our three hospital sites.

For Guy, who visited Leicester General Hospital for a blood transfusion, the service made all the difference:

โ€œThe hospital is very spread outโ€ฆ without the buggy, I would have struggled to find my way and manage the walk. The volunteer drivers were incredibly helpful, and Iโ€™m so thankful this service exists, especially to the donors whoโ€™ve made it possible.โ€

Run by our amazing volunteers, the buggies are helping hundreds of patients each month get where they need to be with comfort and in time for their appointments.

Thank you for supporting a service that helps patients move around our hospital sites more easily and thank you to our incredible volunteers who make it possible every day. ๐Ÿ’™
