We raise money for marine conservation in the UK through our community of Sea-Changer businesses and individuals who work together to raise money for marine projects. We create unique partnerships with businesses who help us raise money in a variety of ways that suit them, their customers and, of course us!

Do you like what Sea-Changers is doing and want to give back to the sea? We are always thankful for our fundraisers who take on bake sales and pound the pavement to raise vital funds for Sea-Changers.

If you love running events along our gorgeous UK coastlines and you want to make every step you run count towards a healthier ocean, remember that if you undertake a run challenge with Endurance Life and raise £400 for Sea-Changers then your race entry fee will be refunded in full.

You may have a different fin-tastic fundraising idea you would like to float by us. It could be baking a cake and holding a cake sale, walking a section of coastline, or hopping around your local beach. Whatever your plan, just drop us a line. Today’s the last day of National Marine Week and what better way to celebrate than supporting marine conservation and getting a wonderful tee!

With this year’s theme being Incredible Journeys, we thought it was only right to feature the amazing puffin!

Puffins leave their coastal habitats at the end of summer to spend autumn and winter entirely at sea! They hunt, rest and sleep in the open ocean enduring harsh conditions away from land predators.

Birds from the same colony can travel to entirely different locations but by April and May, they have navigated their way back to reunite at their traditional burrows for another breeding season.

Sea-Changers is delighted to announce the appointment of Cheryl Nicholson as Executive Director of Sea-Changers.

Cheryl joins us with over 17 years of experience in conservation, strategic development and fundraising. She has a lifelong passion for marine conservation and holds an MSc in Marine Biology. She was drawn to Sea-Changers because of our unique role in enabling practical, grassroots marine conservation action across the UK. Cheryl’s favourite sea creature is a lemon shark! 🦈🍋

Today is National Conservation Day! But what does this mean? 🍃

National Conservation Day is a reminder that every action we take can help protect the world around us. From preserving wildlife and restoring habitats to reducing waste and caring for our local green spaces, conservation is all about safeguarding nature for future generations.

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible work being done to protect our planet and showing how even small actions can make a big difference.

One inspiring example is the Pupils Profit School ECO Refill Shops project. Thanks to funding from Sea-Changers, made possible by Ecosurety, children in schools across the country have been able to set up and run refill shops selling eco-friendly household products.

The initiative helps reduce single-use plastic waste, encourages sustainable habits, and gives pupils valuable enterprise and workplace skills, with profits reinvested to keep the project growing.

In just one year, the pilot schools saved around 1,600 containers from landfill by making refills an option. It’s projects like these that show conservation isn’t always about grand gestures, it’s about empowering communities to make lasting, positive changes, one refill at a time.

Earlier this month we had a fantastic day out with and doing an intertidal survey in Langstone Harbour!

We really enjoyed getting to know the Sea Change Wine team and sharing first hand the amazing work that their partnership enables. Sea-Changers projects support real grass roots conservation across the UK and we couldn’t do it without our funding partners. Days like this are a reminder of what we are working for 🩵

PS - in case you’re wondering what ‘crab hacking’ is, it’s a parasitic barnacle which can cause crabs to be infertile or stop growing, like something from science fiction! 😨🦀

Seeding Change Together: Seagrass Restoration Project - Cornwall Wildlife Trust:

Seagrass meadows are highly valuable coastal habitats, providing a wide range of ecosystem services. They support marine biodiversity, improve water quality, stabilise sediments and store significant amounts of carbon. However, seagrass has declined dramatically around the UK coastline over the past century due to a combination of poor water quality, coastal development, physical disturbance and disease. As a result, seagrass restoration has become an increasingly important conservation tool, with projects across the UK trialling techniques to re-establish these vital habitats and restore their ecological and climate benefits.

A grant from Sea-Changers enabled the Seeding Change Together seagrass restoration team (Cornwall Wildlife Trust) to undertake a programme of blue carbon sediment sampling at Calamansac Bay.

The analysis demonstrated that the sediments contained exceptionally high levels of stored carbon, significantly exceeding those recorded at any other sites analysed within the Fal and Helford estuaries.

In addition, one sediment core contained preserved remains of Zostera marina (eelgrass) fronds at a depth of 20 cm, providing evidence that seagrass had historically occurred at the site.

These results provided strong evidence that the restoration work is being undertaken at a highly suitable location. Alongside this, establishing baseline carbon storage data before restoration is a valuable step that will enable future monitoring of changes in carbon sequestration as the restored seagrass meadow develops!
