SMiRA Announcement:

SMiRA has today been saddened to hear of the death of our President, Biddy Baxter, at the age of 92. As some of you will know, Biddy was the Editor and Producer of the BBC’s Blue Peter children’s programme for some 26 years and was considered transformative in the world of children’s television. Biddy was born in Leicester and attended Leicester University, during which time she often baby-sat for our Founder, Alice Sluckin, and her family. She remained in contact with Alice and we were delighted when she agreed to be the first President of SMiRA many years ago. Some of our more long-standing members may well remember the lengthy but interesting speech she gave at one of our Leicester Conferences some years ago.

Rest in peace Biddy Baxter.
