The Conservation Volunteers - Leicestershire & Rutland

Thank you to all the effort our Leicester and Rutland team of volunteers have put in during the past couple of weeks.
The weather has been hot whilst we have been doing the annual meadowland cut over at Wing in Rutland.
We do this cut to encourage biodiversity and support native species whilst also providing feed for animals from the collected grass.

Thank you to the hard working staff of Kite Distribution, who are out in the hot sun today clearing an allotment plot for a local community group! Much appreciated, guys!

What an interesting day at Leicester Museums & Galleries Abbey Pumping Station! With the wet weather we had a look at some seed donations which we'd inherited from Belgrave Hall, and what a surprise! Some of them were literally relics from the 1990s!

Does anyone recognise these seed companies?

Another thing we all found interesting was to see just how many bean seeds you got in a packet back then!

We've decided to plant some of the old seeds on the "why not?" principle and see if anything comes up 🤷

Our amazing group of Leicester and Rutland volunteers have spent the past couple of weeks working hard on constructing a boardwalk for the Millennium Park at Husbands Bosworth.
They have transformed the area from and overgrown and boggy path to an open and accessible boardwalk!
The result is amazing and we thank them all for their hard work in completing this project for the Husbands Bosworth Parish Council.

Don't forget to come to tomorrow's Great Big Plant Swap - Tuesday 26th May 2026 at Abbey Pumping Station from 11.00-13.00! (Shade provided in this hot weather!)

This picture shows the majority of what TCV is providing to kickstart the event - we await your donations of seeds, seedlings, plants and pots to provide even more variety!

Everyone is welcome and you can take plants home without needing to bring anything.

Remember to bring something to carry your plants home in, as many of the plants will be provided as unpotted modules.
