Can you believe it's been two weeks since our BACK TO BOOKS Mini Festival?

Back to Books was in response to the city’s low average reading age and the national decline in reading for pleasure by encouraging young people to see themselves as readers, writers and artists in ways that feel relevant, creative and accessible.

Feedback from the festival states that 85.7% of participants say the showcase positively changed how they view libraries and young people's creativity, making them more likely to visit their local library.

A big thank you to for funding the project, for sponsoring the event, all the communities groups that supported us and for being a great partner!

Just shows you what can happen when we all work together for a brighter future.

No young person should be left behind.

The 's analysis of yesterday's Level 3 results are clear - there is a BIG gap in top grades between London and the East Midlands (joint lowest with the North East). It is a clear indication more needs to be done to ensure ALL young people receive the support they need to thrive. (Read the report: https://tinyurl.com/mbn4dxt4)

Here at Pedestrian we have worked hard to change the trajectory of the East Midlands and invested in our young people with an accessible, creative space full of opportunity.

YOU can help to support the future by supporting our work. Find out more on our website www.pedestrian.info

Earlier in the year one of our Alternative Education learners won The Rotary Foundation National Senior competition for her artwork! It was such a fantastic achievement - going from regionals to nationals and smashing them both!

The theme for the 2025/26 young artist competition was ‘Happiness in Nature’
and the winning collection brings to life fond memories, inspirational landscapes
and moments of reflection. Read all about it in the featured article from their August 2026 Rotary GB&I magazine: https://magazine.rotarygbi.org/rotary-young-artist-august-2026

Don't forget our creative arts education plays a key role in helping young people thrive, building confidence, improving well-being and developing life-long skills. To support us, just like Leicester De Montfort Rotary Club has check out our website www.pedestrian.info.

This year, Pedestrian turns 28!

And we’re celebrating the people who made it happen.

Over the next 12 months, we’ll be sharing the stories of those who helped build Pedestrian from the ground up and drive us to where we are now.

Meet , she started as a volunteer gallery assistant back when we were based at LCB Depot before taking a place on our Board of Trustees and then on to position of Chair. She has always been a great guide and support to the organisation, helping us drive forward, even from the other side of the world! Here, she talks about her experience,

"Each role was thoroughly enjoyable as I could combine creative thinking and practice all while knowing that I am contributing to supporting those most vulnerable."

1 DAY TO GO!

The countdown to the BACK TO BOOKS Grand Finale Festival has begun!

This festival is a celebration of our community coming together - bringing people, stories, creativity, music, performance and imagination together in the heart of Leicester.

Over the last 12 days, we have been shining a spotlight on the incredible organisations, artists, performers, creatives, partners, sponsors and community groups who will help make the festival such a special day.

to each other and the planet, they will be hosting a collective art project looking at why and how we are all activists, including support in channeling your ideas for a fairer, greener future. Expect recycled materials, honest conversation & no experience necessary!
