I think it's time to confess my ignorance.
I'll start at the beginning...
12 years ago, my sister and I had a mini-break in Rome.
We were looking forward to seeing the Colosseum, The Vatican, The Trevi Fountain....
On day one, we saw the fountain, and could hardly believe how fortunate we were - no one else was there!
We had expected crowds, but we were alone.
No need to elbow our way through to see.
We took photos of us throwing coins into the water.
A couple of days later, we rode on an open bus tour.
As we looked over Rome, we saw a lot.
Including a rather magnificent fountain.
It was just below us as we drove by.
It was the Trevi fountain.
The actual Trevi fountain.
We looked at each other.
We'd tossed coins into the wrong fountain....
(yes, you are allowed to laugh - we did!)
Until we realised we'd been at the wrong fountain, we were fine with it.
But once we realised, we knew what we were missing.
Last week, my sister went back to Rome.
She went to the real Trevi fountain this time.
And she brought me back the magnet pictured.
What about us with God?
Do we become so comfortable with Him that we stop looking?
That we don't look for more?
Can you fathom the mysteries of God?
Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
They are higher than the heavens above...
Job 11:7,8
As the children's song goes: Our God is a Great Big God!
The more we know of Him, the more there is to know.
Let's look for His More this week.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever!
Amen.
