We are delighted to welcome Debbie, our new Office Manager, to the team. Debbie joins the Volunteer Centre with a wealth of experience from the East Midlands Chamber where she worked in customer facing roles, something Debbie really enjoys. Debbie and her extended family are all local to the area, so are well aware of the great work the staff and volunteers at the Syston Volunteer Centre do. Debbie says "I am excited and proud to be joining the award winning Syston Volunteer Centre and supporting the fantastic work they do."

Today we said farewell to Andy, as he embarks on the next exciting phase of his life with his family in Devon. Andy has been the Office Manager at the Syston Volunteer Centre for nearly 7 years, and is a friendly, familiar face to many. Thank you, Andy, for all your hard work over the years, we wish you and you familiy health and happiness in the future.

We are very proud of the awards we have received over the years. In 2019, we were awarded the Queen's Award for Volunteers in recognition of the outstanding work our Trustees, volunteers and staff do for the most vulnerable members of our community. In 2024 we were awarded the Community Service Award - Large Community at the Rural Community Council awards.

Many people who live in Syston and the surrounding area have no idea of the inspirational, award winning charity that has its office at 18 School Street. The Syston and District Volunteer Centre has been running since 1977, providing much needed community connections for vulnerable members of our community through its social car service. From minibus trips for group outings, to supporting attending hospital appointments or doing the weekly shop, the SDVC is there for people who need it most...BUT we need you!! More volunteer drivers are needed to keep the service going - if you or someone you know is interested in finding out more, please pop into the office, email, ring or visit the website, we'd love to hear from you.

Ever wondered what the Syston & District Volunteer Centre does? 🤔

One of its key services is community transport, designed to help people stay connected and get where they need to go. The service runs on an annual membership, with a small charge per journey.

It includes a "social car" scheme, supporting trips to appointments and other essential journeys. There is also a minibus service, offering group outings to places of interest and a monthly community lunch.

All transport is provided by volunteer drivers, helping people maintain independence while staying part of the community.
