We were delighted to welcome Professor Mark Johnson today to talk about issues of cultural competence, ethnicity and end of life care: a research challenge.

Referencing Leicester as the most integrated city in Britain, Professor Johnson outlined the importance of engaging with patients’ culture and ethnicity, giving powerful examples of the implications for safety and quality. It was definitely thought provoking!

We’re having a great conference - so far we’ve heard from Pip Hardy of Patient Voices, Professor Christina Faull on the role of a hospice and Dr Kathryn Mannix, challenging us to join her dying revolution and prepare better as a society for death.

On Friday we’re holding our conference on patient quality and safety Getting It Right for Patients. We’re really looking forward to welcoming our stellar list of speakers for this sold-out event!

Award winning author and journalist Matthew Syed, palliative care expert Dr Kathryn Mannix, Professor of undergraduate primary care education Rodger Charlton and Patient Voices’ Pip Hardy will be joined by consultant in palliative medicine Professor Christina Faull for debate and discussion on quality in end of life care.

Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People held a masterclass on supporting children who are bereaved here at our professional development centre today.
Thanks to David Hamilton and Sally Blower for their excellent workshop and letting us play with their cuddly heart, lungs and stomach!
