Meet Maureen Uzoh, our JFI26 Cathedral installation artist! ✨

is a self-taught Nigerian Pop Surrealist artist based in London, working across painting, sculpture and participatory public art.

Using balloons as a recurring metaphor, her work explores resilience, freedom, identity and our shared need for connection.

Maureen will be creatingThe Balloon Garden at
as part of Journeys Festival International 2026. This brand new participatory installation will create a joyful space where small messages bring us closer together and remind us of the connections we share as a community.

We can't wait to see it come to life! 🎈

Introducing our Community Heritage Champion 🙌

Meet Christopher Samuel, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in identity and disability politics. Drawing on his lived experience as a Black disabled man, Christopher's work explores representation, identity and belonging.

Christopher will be working with Art Reach, Allinleicester , Leicester City Council and The Audience Agency as part of Leicester's Inclusive Heritage Project. As a Community Heritage Champion, he'll be working with local people to uncover disabled stories that have too often been overlooked, exploring whose voices are missing from Leicester's shared heritage and cultural spaces.

This is just the beginning, and we'll be sharing more soon about the project and how you can get involved. Watch this space 👀
