We’ve extended our deadline – Open Wave: Signs of Story

Application Deadline: Friday 9 October

We’re working with to look for a D/deaf artist or collaborative practice to create a new interactive installation exploring the history, creativity and cultural significance of British Sign Language (BSL).

The work will be displayed at Leicester Cathedral in January and February 2027 and will be co-created with members of the D/deaf community.

- Artist fee: £7,500 (inc. VAT if registered)
- Additional budgets are available for production and access costs, including BSL interpretation.

Applications are open to D/deaf artists and collectives aged 18+, whether or not you use BSL.

Listen closely and be moved by a musical journey exploring experiences of homeland, exile, war, family, hope and new beginnings.

In the lush acoustics of Leicester Cathedral, we're hosting Freedom Cries Out, a live opera performance created by soprano Samantha Crawford and accompanied by pianist Daniel Peter Silcock.

An opera experience like no other including special commissions that feature stories from the other side of hope, a UK-based literary magazine edited by immigrants & refugees. 🎼
