Meet another member of the LLR team, Sarah!

"Based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, I also cover 6 community hospitals in Leicestershire and Rutland. I love my job – being the first point of contact for people newly diagnosed with sight loss, providing emotional support and referring for practical support where required. In my spare time I love reading, the outdoors, and live music."

We are back!

We had a great morning at Soft Touch Arts, meeting up with our families for a chat, catch up and some fun activities.

We were outside in a shady spot so we were able to enjoy this weather in comfort, we had a morning of enjoying games of jenga, higher or lower, crafts and letting ourselves use our imaginations. It was great chance for families to get together and to reconnect.

Good for our families to be able to ask about the services and discuss their issues and worries with us.

We are so glad to be back! We are now busy planning our summer ‘26 events and can't wait to share our ideas with you all ☀️

A big thanks to Soft Touch Arts for their kind support and letting us have a space in their café!

We strongly believe that social media is for everyone!

Our marketing team have been busy working away in the background to create content to let you know all about our services, upcoming social groups and other events. We're very excited to share it with you all!

While all efforts are made to ensure our content is as accessible as possible by adding alt text to images, audio descriptions to videos and contrasting colours in our graphics, we understand that people have different accessibility requirements.

Please do not be afraid to ask for something in a different format - we are more than happy to accommodate (this includes any content you come across on our website too!).

And if we've really missed the mark with a social media post, please call us out on it! You can comment directly under the post, send us a Facebook message or email our marketing team: [email protected].

Across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, essential services for people living with sight loss and those who are deafblind are continuing, with BID Services stepping in to carry forward this important work.

Alongside this, the community spaces where connection happens also remain, and with your support, will continue to grow and thrive.

For many, something as simple as a meet up means far more than it might seem. Sitting down for a cup of tea, meeting with familiar friends, sharing conversation in a space where communication feels accessible and understood, without needing to explain yourself. These are the moments that create belonging and remind people they are not alone.

This sense of connection is just as vital for children and young people, helping them grow in confidence, develop independence, and build meaningful relationships with others who share similar experiences.

These services are here, and with your support, they can continue far into the future.

We are asking for your help to keep these spaces open and accessible. A donation today will make a difference, and if you’re able to give monthly, you’ll help protect these services for the long term.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came together to raise money for these services previously 💙

Time for some introductions!

Today we'd like to introduce you to BID's Head of Operations, Debbie, who has been with us since 2008!

Debbie has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the transition over from Vista has been as smooth as possible, with minimal disruption.

A quote from Debbie:
"Over the past month I have had the privilege of working with the service manager and support team who have transferred to BID from Vista. It has been clear from the start how passionate and dedicated they are to the people they support and always putting them at the forefront of all they do.

As Head of Operations I will be supporting the Service Manager and team to continue to deliver this fantastic service. It is evident that there is a real synergy across both organisations and how lucky we are to have inherited such a wonderful group of people. I look forward to spending time with the team and communities we support over the coming weeks and months."
