📢📢📢In the UK, it is illegal for an employer to discriminate against you for joining a trade union, taking part in union activities, or using union services. You are protected from this by several pieces of legislation, primarily the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (TULRCA). 📢📢📢❗️❗️❗️

What Constitutes "Discrimination" or "Detriment"?
Under TULRCA, it is unlawful for your employer to subject you to any disadvantage (detriment) with the main purpose of deterring you from joining a union, or punishing you for doing so. Examples include:

Being denied a pay rise or promotion.🤬

Being demoted.🤬

Being passed over for training opportunities.

Being threatened with dismissal or selection for redundancy.🤬

Receiving worse working conditions (e.g., being forced to work undesirable shifts )🤬

Being offered financial incentives to leave or not join a union.🤬

Steps to Take✍️

If you are being discriminated against, you should:
Contact your Union:☎️Speak immediately to your union representative for advice and support.
Raise a Grievance File a formal grievance✍️ regarding victimisation with your employer.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

2026 will be an enormous year for us, with significant challenges ahead. And we are in a strong position to continue to meet those challenges and make the case for an alternative and better way forward.

The last year has demonstrated the power in trade unions, and the difference a trade union membership can make. For the future challenges, we need to be ready to face them together.

The choice between eating and heating should not exist in Britain in 2026 !!.

Now is the time for us all to come together and celebrate the joy of the season. From myself, and from everyone at BFAWU , I wish you a very Happy New Year.

Dear Members,

As another year comes to an end, I wanted to say, thank you from BFAWU union . Thank you for everything you have done in 2025.

I would also like to thank the engine of BFAWU which is the hard working, knowledgeable and skilful Advice and our union Representation team who are by far the reason a lot of members join BFAWU.

Thank you sincerely for your continuing membership and engagement with BFAWU . Have a great festive break and here and somewhere there will be food workers working hard over the festive period providing a side to food manufacturing that the public rarely sees or media reporting on the great work we do 24hr, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year . As we look forward to 2026, I know we will continue to work together successfully to campaign for better pay, conditions, workers’ rights, and equality .

I wish you, your families and loved ones a happy Christmas and let’s hope for a kinder and peaceful new year.
