What an incredibly eventful and heartwarming weekend of celebration, appreciation and unity here at Highfields Centre ❤️✨

This weekend was all about recognising and thanking the amazing community groups who return to us week in, week out 💯 hosting cultural, educational and inspirational programmes that continue to enrich the lives of so many people across the city.

Yesterday truly highlighted the beauty of our diversity. We are a Centre that proudly embraces migration, heritage, culture and community spirit. Every single day, we learn how our shared values, traditions and humanity inspire us and bring us closer together. 🌍🤝

From Eritrean cultural food and traditional dance, to conversations around Abrahamic faiths, Christians, Jews and Israelites — they celebrated Their Independence day with their families and friends with delicious foods and a wonderful party🍾🍾✨️✨️📸

No matter our background, language or faith — together, we will always be ONE. ♥️✨🍾📸

A huge thank you to every Organisation, family, volunteer and community member who continues to make our centre a welcoming home for all.

A busy Friday night at the Centre and a powerful reminder of why we continue to do this work.

For over 30 years, we have proudly supported youth activities within our community, and this is where you truly see the evidence of making a difference in young people’s lives.

Shubaan Youth Club have been using our spaces for more than 15 years. What began as a simple weekly badminton session for young males has grown into a thriving community-led youth group. Today, those same parents now voluntarily facilitate activities for over 70 young people each week, all without any formal source of funding.

The group provides young people with access to sports, socialising, homework support, positive mentorship and opportunities to build confidence, self esteem and aspiration. Sessions are from 8.30pm to 10.20pm after madrassa.

Tonight, the young people were inspired by powerful words from Riaz Khan and Brother Ismail, who spoke passionately about staying safe, remaining positive through moments of uncertainty, staying humble, focused and never losing hope whilst building brighter futures.

This is what community looks like.
