Highfields Centre opened in 1974 as a community centre, to enable the Highfields Community Association to get the old Centre built, with our mission of Enhancing Lives, Empowering Communities & Enterprise for One & All.

After an incredible 45 years of service, we gathered to celebrate the retirement of our Head of Centre, Priya Thamotheram. We cant believe over 8 weeks have passed since your well deserved rerirement ...⚘️❤️

For more than four decades, Priya has dedicated his life to Highfields Centre and the community it serves. His leadership, vision and determination have helped the Centre grow into the trusted community hub it is today supporting generations through adult learning, employment advice, youth work, arts, community events and countless opportunities for local people.

Through changing times and many challenges, Priya remained committed to protecting vital services, building strong partnerships and ensuring the Centre continued to enhance lives, empower communities and create enterprise for all. His contribution cannot simply be measured in years, but in the thousands of lives he has touched and the lasting difference he has made across Highfields and Leicester.

A huge thank you to everyone who spoke so beautifully on the night and shared their memories and appreciation. Thank you to Priya’s family and friends for joining us, to the Highfields Centre staff, and to everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the celebration so special.

Priya, your legacy will forever remain part of the heart and history of Highfields Centre. We wish you a long, happy and well-deserved retirement. Thank you for 45 remarkable years of dedication, service and leadership. 💐👏🏽

❌ No Basketball – Wednesday 12th August

Friday basketball will continue as normal this week.

☀️ Summer Break:
There will be NO Friday Basketball sessions from 21st August until 11th September.

🏀 Wednesday basketball will continue as normal from Wednesday 19th August onwards.

Please check the poster for all the dates and make sure you don’t turn up when sessions aren’t running! 🙌

💙 Continuing Antoin’s Legacy | AAA Foundation

We spoke with Cheryl Armatrading, mother of the late Antoin Akpom and founder of the Antoin Akpom Achievements (AAA) Foundation, about the powerful work being carried out in Antoin’s name.

Cheryl shares the story behind the foundation, its work supporting and empowering young people across Leicester, and its connection with the Highfields Centre.

Through mentoring, intervention, prevention, wellbeing, arts and sport, the AAA Foundation continues to create positive opportunities for young people while keeping Antoin’s legacy alive.
