Small Wonders

From Small Wonders grow BIG ideas

Promoting reading for pleasure and language development for 0-7 year olds through storytelling, music and creative play. The Spark Arts for Children are delighted to announce 'Small Wonders' a new project working with Leicester City Neighbourhood and Library Services.This unique project will use music, art, creativity, stories and play to build confidence and improve pre-school language development in children aged 0-7 years. Small Wonders is funded using public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.The Small Wonders project has invited artists Dave 'Stickman' Higgins and Sophie Cullinan to take up residence at Pork Pie Library and Community Centre and St Barnabas Library. Dave and Sophie will work with library staff, schools, families and community groups to re-imagine the library as cultural hubs at the heart of the community. This will enable local children and families to take part in creative activities and performance opportunities building a love of stories and reading for pleasure.During the project Pork Pie and St Barnabas libraries will provide a host of extraordinary creative encounters for children and their families including live performances by exceptional national and international performers and theatre companies who specialise in the creation of work for under 7's.At the end of the project, in August 2020, the two artists will leave each library with a permanent, interactive, creative space. These will provide families a safe space to be creative, and signal the importance of creativity for early childhood development leaving a lasting legacy long after the artists in residence have departed.
