At COP6 of the Minamata Convention on Mercury last November, Artisanal Gold Council reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to reducing mercury use in artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
Since 2008, the organization has combined global expertise with local action, working closely with communities, governments, and partners to implement practical solutions that protect health and environment, empower miners, and support sustainable livelihoods.
As AGC Executive Director Roger Tissot highlighted, COP6 is not only about global agreements, it is an opportunity to share experiences, learn from others, and advance a future where artisanal gold mining is mercury-free, safe, and economically empowering for communities.
