Mesothelioma UK

Mesothelioma UK Mesothelioma UK is the national charity for anyone affected by mesothelioma.

We exist to support people with mesothelioma to live better and live longer and to prevent mesothelioma happening to future generations. About Mesothelioma UK

Mesothelioma UK is a national specialist resource centre, specifically for the asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma. The charity is dedicated to providing specialist mesothelioma information, support and education, and to improving care an

d treatment for all UK mesothelioma patients and their carers. The charity integrates into NHS front line services to ensure specialist mesothelioma nursing is available at the point of need. This is achieved through a growing network of specialist mesothelioma nurses, regionally based in NHS hospitals but funded by Mesothelioma UK. Mesothelioma UK is based at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Glenfield site. The charity relies entirely on donations, legacies, fundraising and sponsorship to ensure all services provided free of charge across the UK.

"On 30 May 2026, myself and my brother Ashley took part in a skydive to raise money for Mesothelioma UK. Prior to 2017, no one in my family had even heard of mesothelioma but then my family has been unlucky enough to have suffered with the impacts of this awful disease twice in the short space of nine years.

"Our grandad passed away from pleural mesothelioma in 2017 and shortly after this, our dad was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma.

"With only 5 in 100 people surviving peritoneal mesothelioma for 5 years or more, our family has been incredibly lucky to have the time we have had with our dad, Nick. As he's been so incredibly strong and brave throughout, myself and my brother decided to try and be as brave as we could and throw ourselves out of a plane to raise money for this wonderful charity despite both being terrified of heights!

"We raised just over ยฃ1,000 for the charity and now have a very proud Dad who was watching everything at home over FaceTime!"

Thank you so much to Emily & Ashley for sharing your family's story and for fundraising to support those affected by mesothelioma. Peritoneal mesothelioma likely represents no more than 7โ€“10% of all mesotheliomas and all forms of mesothelioma deserve greater awareness.

Fundraising events like Emily & Ashley's skydive help more people learn about mesothelioma, and their donation will make a real difference - supporting specialist nursing care, essential services, and research that helps people diagnosed live better and live longer.

Thank you again for sharing your story and for your incredible support ๐Ÿ’™

You may have seen our earlier post about the special Service of Remembrance that we are hosting on Friday 26 June in honour of those whose lives continue to inspire us.

If you're unable to attend the service but would still like to be part of the event, you are welcome to send us a personal message in memory of your loved one. We would be honoured to write it on a paper leaf and hang it on our special flower arch during the Service of Remembrance.

The service will include military ceremonial elements, readings and a time for quiet reflection among families, friends and supporters who share a connection through remembrance.

If you would like to attend, places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendance can only be guaranteed once your place has been confirmed, so please contact us by 4.30pm tomorrow, 18 June.

We would be honoured to welcome you at the National Memorial Arboretum from 9.45am on the 26th.

To reserve a place or send your message, please contact our Fundraising Manager, Neil, by email at
[email protected] or call 0116 218 5742.

๐Ÿ’™ Join us for the Meso UK Blue Light Walk on Thursday 2 July! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Our Blue Light Walks for Action Mesothelioma Day are a chance to come together, raise awareness, and shine a light on mesothelioma โ€“ the asbestos cancer that affects more than 2,700 people in the UK every year.

We'll be meeting at Everards Meadows & Beer Hall (Cooper Way, Leicester, LE19 2AN) at 6pm. Everyone is welcome and you can walk as much or as little as you'd like. We'll be doing laps around the meadow, with each lap taking around 20 minutes.

Afterwards, we'll head to Everards Beer Hall for refreshments and a chance to catch up with others in our mesothelioma community.

If you're unable to take part in the walk but would still like to show your support, we'd love for you to join us. We'll have space in the outdoor area where you can Go Blue for Meso and help us make mesothelioma matter.

To join us, email [email protected] - we'd love to see you there! You can also request an AMD Blue Light Walk Pack so we can light up blue together.

Find out more at https://ow.ly/6hWL50Zcjnc and join us to remember loved ones, support those affected and help ensure that mesothelioma is never forgotten.

Since Mesothelioma UK's inception, we have spearheaded efforts to improve mesothelioma care across the UK. Our network of mesothelioma clinical nurse specialists makes a vital difference to the lives of people living with the disease and their families, every day.

Their expertise, compassion and dedication help ensure that those affected receive expert support, improved symptom management, better access to treatment and clinical trials and ultimately, a higher quality of life.

That's why we're incredibly proud to share that our Head of Nursing, Leah Taylor, has won the Golden Bronchoscope Award at the NETs event for her work on the regional mesothelioma MDT in the North East. ๐Ÿ‘

These awards recognise innovative respiratory projects, and Leah's achievement reflects the commitment and excellence seen across our nursing network.

We want to thank Leah and all of our mesothelioma clinical nurse specialists for the outstanding care and support they provide every day as they continue striving for better outcomes for everyone affected by mesothelioma. ๐Ÿ’™

Our Community Fundraising Manager has done it again! ๐Ÿ’™

Megan works hard to support people affected by mesothelioma as they take on their own fundraising challenges. This time, she's stepped up to the challenge herself once again!

"On Saturday, I completed 25km in the Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge for Mesothelioma UK!

"Thank you to everyone who donated and supported me as I took on this challenge, as well as my Snowdon By Night challenge in May. Itโ€™s been amazing!"

A huge thank you to Megan for completing another incredible challenge and helping to raise vital awareness and funds for those affected by mesothelioma.

Emily-Jane Scandrett was an incredible, dedicated advocate for everyone living with mesothelioma. She, along with her husband Ryan, have been deeply valued members of the mesothelioma community, with both raising huge awareness of the disease and taking part in numerous fundraising events.

In this Birmingham Mail article, Ryan calls on the government to take action for Emily-Jane, whose story proves that asbestos is not a thing of the past. Previous research has shown it is still present in 80% of schools, 94% of hospital trusts and numerous other residential UK buildings. More needs to be done to keep people safe.

We'd like to thank Ryan and his family for their ongoing support with both raising awareness and championing our charity.

We'd like to say another huge thank you to the wonderful people who took part in the London Marathon this year and share some of their stories ๐Ÿ’™

Laura Garland and Alice Mills both ran in memory of their grandads, while Victoria Kooper took on the challenge for her grandma.

Thanks to fundraisers like these and the generosity of those who support them, we're able to provide vital support services for people affected by mesothelioma.

Behind every marathon fundraiser is a personal story, and we felt it was important to share the words and experiences of some of the incredible people who went the extra mile for us. Their stories are a powerful reminder of the real impact mesothelioma has on individuals and families. Swipe through the images to read their touching words ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ We've also managed to secure ONE charity place for the London Marathon 2027. If you'd like to be considered for this incredible opportunity, please email our fundraising team at [email protected] and they'll be happy to provide more information.

"Mesothelioma was not a word we were familiar with until last year. I can honestly say that from attending Mesothelioma UK's Carers course online, to accessing information & useful guides on their website and speaking with staff, the work they do is incredible and gives hope. The staff make you feel part of a caring, supportive community that genuinely want to help."

Thank you so much for sharing your kind words, Louise. Although today marks the final day of , we'll never stop being there for the people who care for and support those affected by mesothelioma ๐Ÿ’™

One of the ways we do this is through our carers course. Our latest course has just come to an end, helping carers learn more about what to expect and where to find support โ€“ both for themselves and the person they care for.

We'll be launching our next carers course soon, so keep an eye on our social channels for details.
We also have information and support for carers on our website, including details of support groups: https://ow.ly/jMSV50Zb28m
