"On 30 May 2026, myself and my brother Ashley took part in a skydive to raise money for Mesothelioma UK. Prior to 2017, no one in my family had even heard of mesothelioma but then my family has been unlucky enough to have suffered with the impacts of this awful disease twice in the short space of nine years.
"Our grandad passed away from pleural mesothelioma in 2017 and shortly after this, our dad was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma.
"With only 5 in 100 people surviving peritoneal mesothelioma for 5 years or more, our family has been incredibly lucky to have the time we have had with our dad, Nick. As he's been so incredibly strong and brave throughout, myself and my brother decided to try and be as brave as we could and throw ourselves out of a plane to raise money for this wonderful charity despite both being terrified of heights!
"We raised just over ยฃ1,000 for the charity and now have a very proud Dad who was watching everything at home over FaceTime!"
Thank you so much to Emily & Ashley for sharing your family's story and for fundraising to support those affected by mesothelioma. Peritoneal mesothelioma likely represents no more than 7โ10% of all mesotheliomas and all forms of mesothelioma deserve greater awareness.
Fundraising events like Emily & Ashley's skydive help more people learn about mesothelioma, and their donation will make a real difference - supporting specialist nursing care, essential services, and research that helps people diagnosed live better and live longer.
Thank you again for sharing your story and for your incredible support ๐
