Here’s the next common co-occurring condition….

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) & Neurodivergence

What is it?

EDS is a group of inherited connective tissue disorders affecting collagen, which provides strength and support throughout the body.

The most commonly discussed type within neurodivergent communities is Hypermobile EDS (hEDS).

Common symptoms

• Joint hypermobility• Chronic pain• Frequent dislocations• Easy bruising• Fatigue• Soft or stretchy skin

More information

Because collagen exists throughout the body, EDS can affect multiple systems including joints, digestion, circulation, bladder function, and the nervous system.

Many people spend years seeking diagnosis because symptoms are often misunderstood.

Neurodivergence link & research

Several studies have found increased rates of autism and ADHD in people with EDS. A major Swedish study found people with EDS had significantly higher rates of autism, ADHD, depression, and anxiety-related conditions compared with the general population. Researchers are currently exploring possible shared biological pathways

Good afternoon our amazing neurodivergent community! Here is another condtion that is common in neuro divergent individuals!

Hypermobility & Neurodivergence

What is it?

Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) is a connective tissue condition where joints move beyond the typical range of motion and cause symptoms such as pain, instability, fatigue, or injuries. It is different from simply being naturally flexible.

Common symptoms

• Joint pain and stiffness
• Frequent sprains or injuries
• Joints that click, pop, or partially dislocate
• Fatigue
• Poor balance and coordination
• Muscle pain

More information

Connective tissue supports joints, muscles, skin, blood vessels, and organs. In people with HSD, connective tissue may be more flexible than usual, making joints less stable and increasing strain on muscles.

Many people report symptoms beginning in childhood but not being recognised until adulthood.

Neurodivergence link & research

Research has found higher rates of autism and ADHD in people with hypermobility conditions. Scientists are still investigating why, but theories include shared genetic factors, nervous system differences, sensory processing differences, and connective tissue variations.

A large Swedish population study found significantly increased rates of both autism and ADHD in people with hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Research reviews published in recent years continue to support a strong association between autism and hypermobility conditions. (SpringerLink)

Good morning you lovely bunch.
How is everyone doing today in this cooler weather?

This weekend I totally lost track of time in a hyperactive doing moment. What I thought was around 10pm was 3am in the morning. I constantly loose track of time or don’t judge it for appointments. I’m late a lot much to people’s frustration. It’s got worse now I’m in menopause. Some days I get frustrated with myself.

How’s other people’s experiences with Time and management?
Love to hear your thoughts.

On another note please share the link and invite friends to this page so we can build community.

💜 A Quick Update About Last Night’s Group 💜

We wanted to acknowledge that last night’s session didn’t go quite as we had planned.

Due to a misunderstanding in communication, we believed our guest speaker would be speaking with the facilitators rather than presenting to the group. This meant that our planned board games evening didn’t happen in the way we had expected.

We know that unexpected changes can be difficult for many neurodivergent people, and we’re sorry for any disappointment, frustration, or uncertainty this may have caused.

We also want to reassure everyone that we will always make you aware of any changes to planned sessions as soon as possible. We always try to avoid making changes to planned sessions where we can; however, in this situation, we unfortunately weren’t aware of the change ourselves until the session took place.

Although it wasn’t what we had planned, the information shared was really interesting, and the organisation sounds like it does some fantastic work. We’re grateful that they took the time to join us.

🎲 Games Night Take Two! 🎲

We’re going to have another dedicated games night next Friday, with the focus on what we originally planned:

✨ Board games
✨ Optional group games
✨ Solo activities
✨ A quiet area for anyone who needs a lower-stimulation space
✨ Feel free to bring your own hobbies, crafts, fidgets, games, or activities too!

As always, there is no pressure to join in with any particular activity. You are welcome to participate in whatever way feels comfortable for you. Just come for a brew. And a nosey

Thank you for your understanding and for helping make our group a welcoming, supportive community. We look forward to seeing you next week for an evening of games, connection, and fun at your own pace. 💜
