Leeds Mind's Suicide Bereavement Services

Leeds Mind's Suicide Bereavement Services Leeds Mind's Suicide Bereavement Services: compassionate support for people bereaved by suicide.

Leeds Suicide Bereavement Service (LSBS) has been set up as a result of a partnership between Leeds Mind and Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service with support from Leeds Bereavement Forum. Leeds City Council has provided funding for the project which will initally run as a pilot for three years. Our official launch day will be on World Suicide Prevention day on the 10th of September 2015- although th

e service will start taking referals in mid August 2015. The Coalition Government's Suicide Prevention Strategy recognised that people bereaved by suicide are a target group for support, as being bereaved by suicide increases your risk of suffering long-term negative health outcomes and ending your own life. The term used internationally to encapsulate such support is 'postvention'. LSBS currently runs a peer support group and on our lauch will start delivering individual support to people bereaved by suicide, this will include amongst other things: advocacy, guidance with practical matters, signposting and most importatly a safe place to talk. Informal social drop-in groups will also start running monthly in differing locations around the city. LSBS is working to reduce the stigma associated with suicide and suicide bereavement and to raise awareness of the struggles of those left behind. We are staffed by workers with direct experience of suicide bereavement.

We're very proud to share a film about ***deBereavement, produced by a group of young people with whom we work.

All young people involved have been supported by Leeds Mind's Su***de Bereavement Services. They share their experiences of being bereaved by su***de, and how our service has helped.

This was possible through a collaboration between Men’s Talk (Community Links), Leeds Mind and the young people involved.

Have you seen our events programme for January - March 2024 yet?

We hold monthly support groups (both online and face-to-face), as well as special, one-off events. Previous one-off events have included workshops to help you plan self-care around significant dates and anniversaries, and a family-friendly visit to the Donkey Sanctuary.

These events are for clients of the Su***de Bereavement Services. This is a great opportunity to be part of a community that understand because they have also experienced a loss through su***de.

If you're interested in these events but have not yet worked with the Leeds Mind Su***de Bereavement Services, please email [email protected] or call 0113 305 5800 and ask to speak to someone in the Su***de Bereavement Services team.

If you’re accessing support as an individual, you’ll be assigned a su***de bereavement practitioner who has lived experience of loss by su***de. Through six one-hour sessions, you’ll have the space to talk and explore your feelings, as well as getting practical support.
