Yesterday and the day before, workers at City Council building services joined 1000+ local government craftworkers across a number of English local authorities in taking strike action for , defense of their bargaining rights, and to push-back against attacks on their conditions 🦺👏
These highly skilled workers - largely involved in Council Housing maintenance and repair - are only being offered 3.2% after years of real-terms pay cuts and pay freezes. Representatives of the Local Government Association are also trying to exclude apprentices from the “Red Book” National Collective Bargaining Agreement

Other Unite the union branches including ourselves and our local third-sector comrades in the Unite the Union NE/403/15 branch brought yesterday morning to their picket
Great to hear that union movement stalwart, East Leeds MP Richard Burgon, addressed strikers with his full support on Wednesday
Good-on the Yorkshire Shop Stewards Network for sending a delegation across both days of action so far
If you can, you could show your backing by visiting the next pickets:
🗓️ On Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th of June
⏰ Starting 7.30am
📌 Leeds City Council Building Services, Print Works, Just-off Limewood Approach, Near Ring Road, Seacroft, Leeds, LS14 1NF
Although this round of strike action was targeted, anger and the sense of injustice is widespread, and workers from more authorities could take action in future. This makes the Local Government employers’ refusal to meet with Unite and negotiate over these concerns all the more bizarre. We'd ask what Leeds City Council is doing to pressure the LGA to come to the table
We’ll be with the Building Services workers and their colleagues across England all the way! ✊ ❤️ 🩵
