Last night, we were delighted to take part in the Voices in Design: Girls, Inclusion & the Built Environment event, held in collaboration with Building Female and RIBA YAPF.💡✨

The event brought together a multidisciplinary panel to explore how inclusive design can create safer, more accessible, and inspiring spaces for young people, while supporting lifelong learning. Although we missed Jess Jones, MRTPI, who was unable to join us, the evening was rich in insight and discussion.

🌟 Abigail Gaines shared research showing how parks often overlook teenage girls and how this affects their sense of belonging in public spaces.

Make Space for Girls campaigns for parks and public spaces that reflect the needs of teenage girls. Research shows that girls’ use of parks drops significantly during adolescence, with many facilities often dominated by boys. This imbalance affects how girls experience public spaces and can reinforce the perception that they don’t fully belong in them.

🌟 Leah Stuart highlighted the importance of inclusive street and transport design, encouraging us to consider who benefits from spaces and how active travel can be accessible for all.

🌟 Vicky Casey shared her expertise in healthcare design, emphasising that inclusivity must sit at the heart of every project. She works across multiple sectors and has been a key advocate for inclusive design within the firm, highlighting the power of stakeholder consultation in shaping people-centred spaces.

🌟 Alanis Burgess explored how gendered urban planning reinforces spatial inequalities and encouraged designers to take action to create more equitable environments.

👏 A huge thank you to our incredible speakers and everyone who joined us for a fantastic evening of learning and connection.

We raised £400 for Make Space for Girls - and donations via the Big Give will be doubled for the next 7 days in celebration of International Day of the Girl! If you still would like to donate please use the link below in our bio🔗

👏 Special thanks to RIBA Yorkshire for sponsoring and Arup for hosting us.

🌟 What a fantastic evening we had yesterday! 🌟

Our visit + Summer Social was a huge success and a complete sellout, we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. 🎉

Over 75 attendees came together for an inspiring presentation from Citu’s Jonathan Wilson & Hannah Limming followed by a tour of their award winning Climate Innovation District, demonstrating what makes this part of Leeds so innovative, sustainable and special. 💡♻️✨

The buzz carried over to the Summer Social afterwards! With over 100 people joining us at | to round off a great evening on the banks of the River Aire - with great conversation, new connections made and plenty of laughs. 🗣️🙌

We even managed to dodge most of the rain and catch some sunshine along the way 🌤️🌅

A big thank you to Citu for hosting us and for showing us around, our brilliant sponsors & and of course everyone who joined us, your energy is what makes these events so special.

We can’t wait to see you all at the next one, and with a busy Autumn planned, hopefully
It won’t be too long until we see you again!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this evening on our ‘Sketch the Skyline’ event ontop of Broadgate, organised by LSA committee member .iuliaaa! 🏙️

Stunning views across Leeds and amazing drawings by everyone involved ✍️🎨

A huge thank you to our evening host, who not only showed us the sights, but wowed us with little known facts about Broadgate whilst we sketched away!

• It had the first escalators in the city. ⬆️⬇️
• The first place to sell Ice creams in Leeds. 🍦🍨
• It was the location of a historic Santa Clause turf war - we’ll let explain that one! 🎅🧑‍🎄

We look forward to arranging another ‘Sketch the Skyline’ event again soon!
