Latch - Leeds Action to Create Homes LATCH creates homes that change lives. We provide support, advice, advocacy and information to our tenants.

We bring empty homes back into use, renovating them with unemployed volunteers who gain skills and experience, to provide homes for homeless people.. Latch has three services:

SUPPORTED HOUSING - LATCH runs a supported housing scheme where we provide accommodation for up to 76 people. The scheme is available to people who are homeless or in very difficult housing circumstances and want to work with us to improve their life circumstances.We can house single people and families. We also provide help with any other problems that may put them at risk of losing their homes, such as debt, benefit problems and rent arrears. TRAINING - Hands On is the Latch community workshop providing short beginner's courses in practical skills such as basic DIY, joinery and plumbing. VOLUNTEERING - Latch refurbishes empty homes with long-term unemployed volunteers, providing opportunities for them to gain skills, confidence and work experience.

We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded £9768 to support victims of domestic violence.

The West Yorkshire Mayor's Safer Communities Fund money will help so many people, mostly women but not exclusively, who require additional safety measures to live securely and peacefully after being made homeless due to escaping their unsafe homes.

Domestic abuse, coercive control, financial abuse, are the leading causes of women's homelessness in the UK.

👋Meet The Team👋
Emma manages LATCH’s Allocations service. It’s this team’s job to match people with the right home and support, and to guide them through the process of becoming a tenant with us.

She’s been with us 2.5 years, and in that time has supported over 100 people (116 if you want to be precise) into their LATCH homes. She also works closely with our Properties team, to make sure our houses are ready on time, and are a safe, welcoming space for new beginnings.

Emma has worked in the third sector for over 15 years, so is used to making things happen! No budget, no resources, no spare team members to help … no problem! Thanks for your can do attitude Emma 😊

Can you read this? What a find!

These are just some of the original 1833-1857 documents for the original sale of one of LATCH'S houses.

We were not the original buyers way back then but how amazing are these hand written and wax sealed historic documents! Almost 200 years old.

The seller was The Earl of Cowper, who we're guessing then gave his name to the nearby streets Cowper Street and Cowper Terrace?

These old buildings we fight with to get back into use have seen some things! Oh if these walls could talk 👀!

Its Bike fix Sunday again this week at LATCH’s Coach House. For all you that don’t know, Bike Fix Sunday is bike repair workshop that is run by volunteers and serves the local community. We are open from 2pm until 5pm on the last Sunday of every month. It’s a pay as you feel service. So basically, if you’ve got no cash we will be happy to help you out for free, but if you can help and donate then this keeps us in parts and keeps us going.
Our mechanics will encourage you to get involved, so you don’t only take away a fixed bike, but you will have some new skills and knowledge. What’s not to like??!!
