Earlier this month we made accessible on our website the 1911 “Health of Farsley” report written by Medical Officer of Health for the area, John Reginald Lambert (who is buried in the Rehoboth).

We are delighted to report that a further TEN reports covering a range of years from 1903 to 1925 have been made available by our research team and added to the original page.

Particularly poignant is the 1918 report which includes what appear to be references to the 1918/1919 Flu pandemic.

It’s available at this link:

John Reginald Lambert, in 1911, as the resident Medical Officer of Health for Farsley, compiled a 15 page report on the health of Farsley. It is fascinating reading and is attached to this article. Our version also includes two additional appendices to the report. Update from 17th May 2026, our r

Sir David Attenborough says Thank You to Farsley and Rodley residents…….

Sir David Attenborough selected our charity as a recipient of his Wild Isles Charitable Foundation four years ago.

He supports our community asset with both funding and advice, to assist with the development of our beautiful natural site.

In honour and appreciation of his generosity and time, the Friends of Farsley Rehoboth organised a 100th birthday celebration on Friday 8th May 2026.

The event was attended by our Volunteers, Corporate Partners, the choir from Valley View Community Primary School and Nima Poovaya-Smith OBE, Deputy Lieutenant, West Yorkshire.

To mark this auspicious occasion, we undertook the planting of a Sycamore sapling by Nima and specialist tree volunteer, Peter Robinson.

A presentation took place of a King`s Award for Voluntary Service Certificate, Crystal and individual badges to the staff and children of Valley View Community Primary School for their support over the past seven years.

There were delicious and unique David Attenborough buns, kindly provided by the The Farsley Cake Co

Also a free raffle with an assortment of David Attenborough themed prizes.

A special birthday banner, kindly donated by Sunnybank Mills

We had a lovely celebration and film and photographs are being sent with love to David Attenborough.

Hoping you can help.

Our charity Friends of Farsley Rehoboth have been researching with family members the story of John Newsome Barran, who we believe is Farsley’s most decorated soldier from WW1, despite serving the full four years as a medic.

John died in 1940 and is buried in the Rehoboth.

This week we received two photographs of him playing for Farsley Celtic, one is a postcard from 1909-10, listing players with many well known Farsley surnames.

The second is post war (1920’s ?) and is in the clubhouse at Throstle Nest (John is on the far right).

We believe the first photo is pretty scarce and may be unpublished.

Our question is please what colour the striped strip would have been ?

This post has also been posted on the FC Farsley and Farsley Celtic groups.

Thanks.
