Dolly Parton was also known as “the Book Lady" to millions of children, she believed every child deserved the chance to fall in love with reading.

Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she collaborated with Rotary to expand access to books and support young readers, one story at a time 📚

Aireborough Rotary have been proud to be involved with this amazing project since 2017 by sending the books to children aged 0 to 5 who receive a book a month via our collaboration with the Aireborough Children’s Centre.

Dolly, thank you for reminding us that literacy opens doors. Your generosity and optimism will inspire generations to come 💖

The entertainer and philanthropist Dolly Parton died 25 August 2026. This Q&A was originally published in the March 2010 issue of The Rotarian (now Rotary) magazine. Later that year, she spoke at the Rotary International Convention in Montreal, Canada.

Summer Treasure Hunt Trail, Town Street, Horsforth
Raising money for our annual project of funding Usborne Dictionaries to 11 primary school Year 3 pupils in the Horsforth, Guiseley, Rawdon and Yeadon area.

How to take part - get your £1 entry forms from Marples and start looking for the posters in the 42 shops on Town Street, you have from the 22nd July to 28th August to find them.

There will be a prize of a voucher for £25 to spend at Marples, so don’t forget to hand in your forms when you have found all the objects on the beach.

Please remember all children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult
