Huge congratulations to Alex who was named runner-up in the Irish in Britain volunteer awards! 🤩

You might remember Alex (and his red bag) from our Winter Warmer deliveries 🍽

Here's LIHH Services Manager Sarah McBride presenting him with his prize: a Galway crystal plaque and framed certificate 💚

If we had one message this , it would be this: feeling lonely is NOTHING to be ashamed of.

If you sometimes feel like you're living life on the sidelines, our community member Evelyn has some advice 💚

"Nothing prepared me for the loneliness I felt after my husband passed away. I no longer felt happiness from anything. There wasn't a day that went by without tears; losing all confidence in going out, even just to the shop.

Then along came Jamie. Jamie started visiting me and we realised we had so many connections in common. His visit became the highlight of my week.

In a short time, Jamie had talked me into attending the Lunch Club. I remember feeling so nervous and was convinced it wouldn't be for me. But Jamie was by my side on my first visit. From that day, I've never looked back.

I will forever feel the loss of my husband: we had 60 wonderful married years. Grief is hard, but LIHH has given me so much joy back. The Lunch Club is the highlight of my week: nothing beats conversation and laughter. I am also a regular at Jamie's bingo outings and this week we're going to Scarborough for the day! I can't wait!"

A pleasure to take part in the recent Dementia Friendly Leeds event at Pudsey Civic Hall.

We enjoyed...

💚 A fascinating talk about hearing loss and dementia from Dr Adele Goman from the University of Leeds
💚 A strength and balance taster session from Active Leeds for Health
💚 A harp and sound bath by Georgie Buchanan Music
💚 Fabulous dance performance from AscenDance

And the Kimberley biscuits went down very well!

A brilliant day of conversation and connection.
