Coverage of The Market Place charity's closure from The Yorkshire Evening Post this week. Despite the comments from West Yorkshire NHS Integrated Care Board and Leeds City Council they no longer commission any community based face to face counselling for young people.
There are telephone helplines, online counselling and crisis support services and they commissioned early emotional support services from a national charity rather than our comprehensive offer.
Counselling services are available in many (but not all) schools and colleges but for young people who cannot or would not access that support in education settings the public sector are no longer funding any community based counselling for young people in Leeds.
If you would like to raise this directly with the ICB please email:
[email protected] (accountable officer for NHS Leeds) and [email protected] (Chief Executive NHS West Yorkshire ICB)
If you would like to raise it with Leeds City Council please email:
[email protected] (Councillor Andrew Scopes, Chair of the Health Scrutiny Board) and ask him to look into the adequacy of young people's mental health support in Leeds - as our young people's voice and influence group did in August and September 2025
