An honest reminder from foster parent Tracy. πŸ’™

"Fostering isn’t always easy. We’re all human, and even the most experienced foster parents have their ups and downs."

Fostering can be incredibly rewarding, but it's important to acknowledge that there will be challenges along the way too.

The good news is that foster parents aren't expected to do it alone. With training, guidance and a strong support network around you, help is always available when you need it.

For Tracy, fostering children with complex needs has brought both challenges and incredible rewards, proving that even on the difficult days, the difference you make can be life changing.

Could you be the person who changes a child's story? πŸ’™

Every year, around 39,000 children enter care, yet there is a shortage of more than 6,000 foster parents across the UK.

Behind every number is a child who needs stability, support and someone to believe in them.

By becoming a foster parent, you could provide a safe, nurturing home and help a young person build confidence, create positive memories and look forward to a brighter future.

One caring adult can make a life-changing difference.

A home adapted with love. A family changed forever. πŸ’™

When Tracy and her husband Andy began fostering, they knew they wanted to make a difference. What they didn't know was how far that journey would take them.
After welcoming two teenagers with complex needs and physical disabilities into their lives, the couple transformed their rented home with accessible adaptations, ensuring the girls could live comfortably, safely and enjoy every opportunity life has to offer.

From wheelchair-friendly holidays and family adventures to creating a home where the girls can thrive, Tracy's story is a powerful reminder that children with disabilities deserve the same experiences, opportunities and sense of belonging as every other child.

She hopes her experience will encourage others not to be put off by assumptions and to consider the incredible impact they could have on a child's life.

What happens when a foster child leaves your home? πŸ’™

In this clip from the Let's Talk About Fostering Podcast, one foster parent shares the lasting impact fostering can have on both children and families.
While every journey is different, some relationships continue long after a child moves on. Over time, bonds are built, memories are made, and connections grow so strong that children become part of the family.

Fostering is about more than providing a home. It's about sharing experiences, learning from one another and helping children feel they belong.
Sometimes, the end of a placement isn't the end of the relationship at all.

Why do some babies enter foster care at birth? πŸ’™

It's a question many people ask when they start learning about fostering.
The reality is that babies only enter foster care when there are significant concerns about their safety and wellbeing, and these decisions are always made with the child's best interests at heart. In some cases, support and safeguarding assessments begin before a baby is even born to help ensure they are safe from day one.

Every family's circumstances are different, and the reasons a newborn may enter care are often complex. That's why empathy, understanding and a child-focused approach are so important.

Our latest article explores why some babies enter foster care at birth, how safeguarding decisions are made, and the vital role foster parents play in providing stability during an uncertain time.

How do you prepare your home for a foster child? πŸ’™

In this clip from the Let's Talk About Fostering Podcast, Jamila shares her advice for welcoming a child into your home.

While it's important to have the practical essentials ready, Jamila believes preparation goes beyond buying a cot or setting up a bedroom. It's about seeing your home through a child's eyes and thinking about what will help them feel comfortable, safe and welcome from the moment they arrive.
From colourful play mats and toys in the garden to creating child-friendly spaces, it's all about helping a young person feel that this is their home too.

Sometimes the simplest question can make the biggest difference:
πŸ’ If I were a child walking into this home for the first time, would it feel welcoming?
