🎉 Today we celebrate a campaign victory more than four years in the making.

On 29 April 2026, the Crime and Policing Bill received Royal Assent, placing a statutory definition of Honour-Based Abuse into law for the first time.

Today, we honour the survivors, families, partners and campaigners who made this possible. 💜

There is still time to help shape the future of abortion care research.

You can take part if you are from the UK and have experience of abortion in any of the following ways:

• you’ve had an abortion
• you’ve supported someone who had an abortion
• you provide abortion care

Your input will help identify the most important unanswered questions about abortion care for future research to address.

You have until 29 May 2026 to let us know what matters to you.

This week, Karma Nirvana attended the MIST Schools Safeguarding Conference in London, where we presented alongside MIST trustees and safeguarding specialist Carolyn Eyre.

The conference provided key updates on legislation and statutory duties for education staff, including the new legal definition of Honour-Based Abuse. Karma Nirvana also delivered our specialist education course, covering HBA, FGM, Forced Marriage and Child Marriage, tailored to an educational context, and exploring how these issues apply to safeguarding staff working in boarding schools or supporting overseas students.

Thank you to the MIST team and all attendees for your engagement, thoughtful questions, and dedication to keeping young people safe ✨

✨ WE'RE HIRING ✨

Karma Nirvana is proud to be at the forefront of tackling Honour Based Abuse across the UK. We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our National Helpline team as a Hybrid Helpline Call Handler (both part-time and full-time positions available), based partially at our Leeds office and working from home.

Being a helpline call handler is a chance to be part of something that truly changes lives. In this role, you'll be a lifeline for those at risk, offering compassionate support when they need it most.

Honour Based Abuse now has a statutory definition, and we anticipate there to be new demand to support those affected by HBA 🩵

Yesterday’s breaking news is a reminder that forced marriage is rarely “just” about marriage — it can sit alongside other forms of abuse and exploitation.

Nine people have been arrested in Crewe following allegations of forced marriage, sexual offences and modern slavery linked to a group known as the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.

It’s important to be clear: this group is not representative of Islam or Muslim communities, and is not recognised as part of Islam by mainstream scholars. We often see religion weaponised, particularly within minoritised communities.

At the centre of this is a survivor who have been brave enough to come forward. We hope their bravery will encourage others to come forward 🕊️

We were honoured to speak at the Judicial College’s Private Law training today ⚖️

Our session focused on Honour-Based Abuse in private law proceedings and why better understanding of HBA within the family courts matters.

When judges can identify and understand HBA more clearly, victims and survivors are more likely to receive the protection and justice they deserve.
