Improvisation can give us space to explore different ways of being, have our voices heard and imagine new possibilities for change. 💜

Over the next 3 weeks in our Lifelong Learning Programmes, we’ll be exploring this through the theme... Reflection in Action! ✨

We’ll learn about people who have shaped Black History and explore how improvisation, music and protest have been used as powerful tools for social change.💜

Self-reflection through creativity can awaken our senses and our stories, helping us connect more deeply with ourselves. 🎨💭

At Purple Patch Arts, we create supportive spaces where learning-disabled people are empowered to reflect, express themselves and be heard. ✨

Today, our Farsley Lifelong Learning Programme visited Sunny Bank Mills Gallery to see The Magic Show, a collaborative exhibition between Henshaws and Pyramid of Arts 🪄💜

The Magic Show is an immersive takeover of the Gallery, with artists from both groups responding to the theme of magic! We explored the exhibition and reflected on what magic means to us and how the artworks made us feel. 💭

We also responded to the music created for the exhibition, moving our bodies through the space and recreating the shapes and movements we saw in the artworks. 🕺🎶

Some of our incredible participants also have their own artwork in the exhibition! They showed us their work and talked about their creative process and how they made it. 🎨

What an incredible first two weeks back in our Lifelong Learning Programmes, Reflecting with Each Other! 💜

We’ve been learning what Reflection means and why we’ve chosen this theme, learning our new warm-up and cool-down routines, and thinking about our own learning journeys for the year ahead!

We’ve also been creating new Group Agreements for each of our Programmes.

This week in our Lifelong Learning Programmes, as well as learning about our new theme, Reflection, we’ve also been reflecting with each other! 💜

To explore this, we’ve been mirroring each other. Working with a partner, one person led slow movements while the other followed, creating a shared movement together. 🤝✨

For our final nature workshop we shared about nature spaces we use in our own lives and what we like to do in them, from going on a walk and listening to the birds, to having a cup of tea. Do you have a local green space that you like to go to? 🌳🪺

We also wanted to add something to the garden space we have been visiting each week as a reminder of the nature workshops and to show our appreciation of nature. So we decorated rocks with our favourite nature inspired pictures and patterns, and added them into the space! 🪨🎨
