Ridge Rd Allotment Association. Summary of the Minutes from the AGM Monday 21/10/2024 8.00pm Bramley Bands Club Elswick Terrace LS13 2BG
(Rents and seed orders were collected prior to the formal meeting).
1) Welcome, Introduction and Apologies.
KM (Chair) welcomed everyone – and asked we acknowledge Tony Rushworth’s passing earlier in the year with a toast.
KM asked everyone to introduce themselves and plot no. There were 28 people in attendance with apologies from 4 members noted.
2) Minutes of the last meeting 30th October 2023. These were agreed.
3) Election of the Committee 2024 - 2025
The meeting confirmed the roll over of the existing committee. Kirk Mann, Phil Smith, Wendy Haigh, John and Teresa Hallet and Stephen Purvis. (Linda Mann Membership secretary). Two new members Katie Alcock (plot 23nth) and Victoria Smith (plot 12sth) were nominated onto the committee for 2025.
4) Chair’s report
a) Persistent issue with paths and hedges. The committee recommended the introduction of an annual community charge of £20 to be added to the rent and water charges. This would be waived if plot holders had undertaken at least two hours community work in the previous year and had kept their own plot/paths etc in good order. KM asked for a show of hands in support of the proposal and it was passed with a clear majority..
b) Membership/Waiting List Report. Linda (Membership secretary) reported that there are 51 plot holders/members; 12 on the waiting list, the top person only joined May 2024. There are 2 plots we cannot let due to flooding and 3 plots available from today.
c) Accounts Teresa (our Treasurer) provided a clear summary of our income, expenditure and account balance. KM thanked her for her work on this.
5) Prizes –Thanks to Mark Jackson for doing the judging again. KM summarised Marks report with the very wet weather being a problem. Despite this competition for prizes had been tight among the top 6 or 7 plots. Third prize went jointly to Stephen Purves (plot 37west) and Vivienne Clucas (plot 21sth); Second prize went to Wendy Haigh (plot 37east) First Prize went to Phil Fountaine (plot 17).
6) Any other business; Guy Smith asked members to contact him ([email protected]) if they wanted to join our “Whatsapp” group.
Formal business closed at 8.30 but many stayed on for more informal chats and drinks.
