Every so often, autism finds itself at the centre of a public debate driven more by misinformation than by evidence.

The impact is not abstract. Nine in ten autistic people report poor mental health because of others' attitudes. More than half say they have avoided going out because of how they might be treated.*

Autism is a difference in how a person experiences the world. It is not a disease. It is not preventable. It is not a matter for debate.

What autistic people need is straightforward: accurate information, respectful language, timely support. The National Autistic Society's call for "support, not stigma" is one every organisation in this field should stand behind. 💙

The SEND White Paper places evidence-based practice, earlier support and a well-trained workforce at the heart of a better system. Those principles are welcome, and long overdue.

But the reforms will not become law until 2029, and no changes to EHCPs will happen before 2030. That is a long time for families navigating today's system.

The gap between reform and reality is where the everyday work of autism support sits. The direction is welcome. The challenge is making sure today's children are not left behind while we wait for it to arrive. 💙

Our impact doesn't stop at our centre doors. 🌍💙

Our recent Ofsted inspection recognised that leaders at our London centre have a far-reaching impact beyond the setting — coaching families to implement strategies at home, and working with other settings to develop staff expertise. ✨

Inspectors noted that we:

Our recent Ofsted report recognised this as part of why our London centre was rated Exceptional for Inclusion. Inspectors noted that some children are able to move on to mainstream school, receiving highly individualised support for the transition. ✨

What does that support look like?

Independence isn't just a goal - it's a journey we take with every child. 🌱

Our recent Ofsted report highlighted how children at AP UK develop crucial life skills. Inspectors observed children developing independence in self-care routines, including dressing, toileting, and eating, whilst learning to use everyday equipment safely. ✨

Real examples of what children learn:
