Muslamic Makers provides a safe space which is fueled by growth mindsets. The aim is to facilitate collaboration by connecting changemakers who will go on to drive innovation, upskilling within the community and provide opportunities by bridgingcross-industry expertise. What we do:

Networking, Upskilling and Knowledge Sharing

History

Muslamic Makers is a community of muslim change-makers who u

pskill and pioneer the world of tech

Origins

Muslamic Makers started life when Murtaza and Arfah connected over Twitter in 2016 with a shared concern for the lack of representation in the technology scene. Their ideas about the need for a muslim tech meetup coincided and together they founded Muslamic Makers, a monthly meetup that gave muslims a safe space to share ideas, network and collaborate. Representation and inclusion

With poor representation across many sectors, our focus was to address the shortage of minority groups leading the way across creative, startup, social enterprise and other industries. It wasn’t long before we realised the need for relevant role models after talking to muslims that experienced a lack of inclusion or fear of not being fully accepted. It became part of our mission to break down barriers such as traditional upbringing, lack of opportunity, education or resources and allow like-minded muslims to build their creative confidence together, owning their work spaces and leading the way. Taking the allyship road

As we have grown we have realised the importance of allyship. We are grateful to have worked with a diverse range of tech companies who have hosted our events in their spaces. It was important to expose the community to companies they didn’t know existed, helping them feel welcome, naturally bridging networks and allowing connections to take place. A thriving community

Muslamic Makers was built for the community by the community, which has experienced true organic growth over the years. We have helped diversify the tech scene, building industry partnerships, hosted over 30 events and built a8500+ talented community on Slack which has attracted global engagement. This is only the beginning and we believe the future is what we make it, as we enter our next phase as a fully registered non-profit enterprise with a passionate team, led by Arfah.
