Care & Repair Leeds is a local agency that helps older, disabled, and vulnerable people live safely and independently in their own homes. They offer free home assessments, falls prevention services, disability adaptations, energy-efficiency advice, and a paid handyperson service for small domestic jobs.

Their primary services include:

Home & Disability Adaptations: Design and installation of major changes—such as level-access showers, stairlifts, and kitchen modifications. Project managers oversee the work from start to finish.

Falls Prevention & Handyperson: Installation of grab rails, carpet strips, and key safes to reduce the risk of tripping or falling.

Home Plus & Energy Advice: Free Healthy Homes checks to prevent cold-related illnesses. This includes emergency heating, boiler advice, and draught-proofing.

Benefits & Money Advice: Free, impartial advice to help clients apply for pensions, Attendance Allowance, and other entitled benefits

Today was a brilliant and productive day at our Active Leeds Strength and Balance session! Led by Sam, we powered through two back-to-back sessions blending chair-based and standing exercises designed to enhance mobility and reduce the risk of trips or falls.

We were also thrilled to welcome a guest speaker from Care & Repair Leeds, who shared some fantastic resources with the group. To top it all off, we took a well-deserved break to enjoy a lovely cuppa tea and a natter.

If you or a loved one are looking to improve balance, build confidence, and stay independent, check out the Active Leeds Strength and Balance Programme or call Karen to learn more about our exercise programme including chair exercises and Tai Chi

Dementia isn’t one-size-fits-all and neither are its symptoms.

Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies are among the most common types – and each affects the brain in different ways.

From memory loss and confusion to changes in behaviour, language or movement, the symptoms can vary widely depending on the type of dementia.

This guide highlights some of the common symptoms linked to each illness, but it’s also important to remember that no two people experience dementia in the same way.

By recognising the different signs, including these lesser-known symptoms, we can spot changes earlier and help more people access an early diagnosis.

In Loving Memory of Brenda Dammes

It is with heavy hearts that The Dammes Family announce the passing of Brenda Dammes. Brenda brought so much light, laughter, and kindness into the lives of everyone around her.

To honour Brenda’s generous spirit and to continue the legacy of the things she cared about most, the Dammes family have set up this memorial fundraising page. Instead of flowers, they are asking friends, family, and loved ones to consider making a donation in Brenda’s memory to Armley Helping Hands.

Every contribution will directly support Armley Helping Hands'
day-to-day services and activities, where Brenda happily participated in her later years. Your donation will help the charity continue providing vital support, social gatherings, and healthy living activities for older people across Armley and Wortley.
