Student Minds

Student Minds No student should be held back by their mental health. We're the UK's student mental health charity. Student Minds is the UK’s student mental health charity.

We empower students and members of the university community to develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to look after their own mental health, support others and create change. We train students and staff in universities across the UK to deliver student-led peer support interventions as well as research-driven campaigns and workshops. By working collaboratively across sectors, we share best pr

actice and ensure that the student voice influences decisions about student mental health. Together we will transform the state of student mental health so that all in higher education can thrive.

If you are experiencing this, please remember: You aren't alone.

Nadia shares her personal journey to remind us that even on the most difficult days, there is always a way through your darkest moments.

⚠️ This blog includes possible triggers. Trigger warnings include discussions of su***de, binge-eating and self-blame. Please take care of your wellbeing before reading.

Navigating life after university can be hard, especially when students are in the middle of meeting deadlines and taking exams.

Make sure students know that while the future is uncertain, they’re not alone and that it’s okay to still be figuring out what to do after university. Support is available to help them through final term.

At the end of last week, the Government announced a new 10 year mental health strategy in England, aimed at driving a shift from crisis intervention to preventative care. This is a welcome development and an excellent opportunity to turn the tide on mental health care in England.

The government has to get this right.

The cross-government strategy must address the conditions shaping mental health: poverty, inequality, discrimination, housing, environment, and much more. The strategy must deliver joined-up support, improved access to care, and timely interventions for all those who need help.

It must recognise that populations with unique needs, including university students, benefit from tailored support and interventions, and set out to make such support commonplace.

A better future for mental health is possible: this is our chance to make it a reality.

Today is the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.

We want to raise awareness of the discrimination that many LGBT+ communities have faced and continue to face, as shown in our statistics. We’ve made progress, but we still have a long way to go to ensure that everyone is treated equally and fairly.

To our LGBT+ friends, family, colleagues and the wider community, we stand with you and will continue to do so proudly and unashamedly 🧡

Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week, and we’re kicking off with a reminder to take action!

Taking action comes in many different forms. It can look like:

- Prioritising your wellbeing: https://bit.ly/47sWEiB
- Supporting a friend: https://bit.ly/3NVFmCV
- Advocating for mental health improvements for all: https://bit.ly/4s5Buya

Real change happens when we take action together.

Join us as we share ways to take action throughout this week to ensure that no student is held back by their mental health.

Every action, big or small, helps 🧡
