Adel Players are excited to present "A Month of Sundays"; a bitter-sweet comedy by Bob Larbey.

Set in a comfortable retirement home in the 1980s, it deals with age, family and friendship, human frailty and resilience, dignity and self-respect, vacuum cleaners, whisky and wine gums, and the Middlesex County Cricket Championship winning team of 1947. In short, a bit of everything.

Cooper may be getting creaky now but his mind is as sharp as ever, while his good friend Aylott is a picture of physical good health but starting to have trouble with his memory. Cooper’s world revolves around his favourite nurse Wilson, his forthright cleaner Mrs Baker, his dutiful but rather distant daughter Julia and her family, and daily exchanges with fellow-conspirator Aylott. They all contrive to entertain, delight and inspire us with their different takes on life which will strike a chord with everyone.

Tickets are £10.00 each and can be reserved by emailing [email protected]

Adel Players are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Bernard Riley.

Bernard had been involved in the amateur theatre since he was 15 years old and joined Adel Players shortly after moving to Yorkshire in 1990. He became one of our most passionate advocates, along with his wife of 54 years, Pat.

Prior to being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2018 Bernard directed more than a dozen plays for Adel Players as well as directing for Weeton & Huby Players, Menston Thespians, and Burley Theatre Group. He was an Assessor for the Wharfedale Festival of Theatre until retiring from its committee in 2023 and he served as Secretary of Adel Players for 17 years, too. In recognition of his contribution to the Adel War Memorial Association (of which Adel Players is a part), Bernard was appointed its President, a role he continued to fulfil with distinction until his death despite his increasingly disability.

Despite his diagnosis Bernard didn't allow it to slow him down. He participated in the 'Walk for Parkinson's; Ripley 2023' raising funds and awareness for the disease - he hoped to raise £50 and smashed it by raising £1215 plus £245 in Gift Aid.

Bernard was an award-winning actor and director. His direction oversaw some of our fundraiser Murder Mysteries and the following productions:

Good Grief
Taking Steps
Nobody’s Perfect
Pack of Lies
Season’s Greetings
Absurd Person Singular
The Lady in the Van
Breaking the Code
Taking Sides
Caught in the Net
An Inspector Calls
When We Are Married
All My Sons
Journey’s End
Love From a Stranger

His funeral will be held at Lawnswood Crematorium at 1:45pm on Monday 9th March followed by a wake at Adel War Memorial Hall. Donations will be collected in lieu of flowers and will go to the AWMA. Bernard's request was for no one to wear black - a celebration of this extraordinary man's life deserves to be colourful.

Bernard, we thank you for everything you have done for us and for amateur theatre. We are grateful to have known you, to have been your friends, and we will miss you terribly.

“Journey Well, Sir."

Adel Players' January production is "Feelgood" by Alistair Beaton.

Set in a seaside hotel during a political party conference, press secretary Eddie struggles to maintain the image of a perfectly united and purposeful event.

Meanwhile, chaos reigns as protesters lay siege to the hotel, the deputy prime minister is stranded and a scandal threatens to break which would destroy the party's electoral chances for a generation.

Tickets for this fast-moving contemporary political satire are on sale from the Box Office now!

As the curtain falls on The Incident Room, all we can say is "wow." Over 400 incredible audience members joined us for this journey, and last night, we were deeply moved to learn that one of those attendees was Sheila, the widow of Andrew Laptew. She came with one of their daughters and grandchildren, and we were so grateful and humbled to meet them.

We hope we did justice to the real people and the story The Incident Room shared, and we can't thank you enough for your unwavering support. We truly couldn't have done it without you ❤️

Our next production is "The Incident Room" by Olivia Hirst and David Byrne.

Set in the incident room of Millgarth Police Station between 1977 and 1981, this fast moving drama looks at the investigation into the series of murders carried out by the Yorkshire Ripper. The story centres around Megan Winterburn, the detective sergeant running the incident room and George Oldfield, the Assistant Chief Constable in charge of the investigation, as well as other characters from the time.

With public and political pressure mounting, hundreds of officers worked around the clock and resorted to increasingly audacious attempts to identify the killer. The play incorporates a certain amount of 'northern humour' and there is some strong language.
