MS Society Leeds Branch

MS Society Leeds Branch A warm welcome to you from the Volunteer Group and members of the Leeds & District Group. We act autonomously and raise our own funds for the work we do.

The group is run and administered by volunteers and our aim is to help anyone whose life is affected by Multiple Sclerosis. The MS Society Leeds & District Group is a branch of the national charity the MS Society, which is the biggest charity in the UK for individuals affected by MS. Our focus is on providing emotional, practical and financial support to anyone affected by MS in the Leeds area. To

Evening all , I am interested in the new drug that helps with walking so I contacted the MS nurses this is the response I received and this is what they are rolling out at the moment.
Hope this helps anyone that is also thinking about going onto it

Thank you for getting in touch about Fampridine.
We have noted your interest and added your details to our waiting list. As you may know, Fampridine has recently been approved for use on the NHS. Before we can start prescribing it routinely, there are a few local approval processes that need to be completed.
The medication first needs to go through a local review process (A Drug and Therapeutics application) before it can be added to our prescribing formulary. This review looks at how effective and safe the treatment is, as well as whether it represents good value for the NHS. Once this has been approved, we will also need to agree a shared care arrangement with local GP practices. This allows your GP to continue prescribing and monitoring the medication after it has been started by the specialist team.
We are working through these steps as quickly as possible. Once everything is in place, we will be able to assess patients to see if Fampridine is suitable for them and discuss the possible benefits and risks of treatment.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will be in touch as soon as we have any updates.
Kind Regards

The MS Team
