Today on our Goole Creates project we had trouble with ghosts! 👻Explored dark archives and developed the sections of our improvised pieces with Riverside Community Special School.
In the morning at Goole Academy, we scratched and rewrote some lyrics and finalised the structure of our brand new song.

Earlier this week, Goole Academy students worked on their new piece for the DeltaSide ensemble's very special concert in April.

This was their first time as a full group working with . Adding synths with his MiMu gloves and giving us that half time and full time tempo which our self taught student Freddie on the drums nailed!

What a night yesterday for the finale of this year's Our Music Our Way project! Super performances from all 4 participating schools with Royal Northern Sinfonia of 8 brand new pieces of music telling new myths for Redcar & Cleveland alongside beautiful orchestral music from RNS.

Young people have worked with Michael Betteridge and musicians from RNS and TVMS over the last few months to create their music and prepare for the show. A special shout out to our Young Producers, who did an excellent job supporting the front of house team in welcoming the audience to Freebrough Academy.

"Children are fired up, motivated and have looked forward to every session" one audience member told us.

Exactly what our partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council Tees Valley Music Service - TVMS is all about, working with RNS to create inspiring musical opportunities for young people.

The countdown is on (5 days...) to Our Music, Our Way concert at Freebrough Academy.

Tees Valley Music Service have been rehearsing with all our amazing schools the pieces they have co-created with the team and music leader Michael Betteridge.

We had a fantastic day Darlington Hippodrome with Royal Northern Sinfonia yesterday. Our Darlo Creates project opened the concert with a super performance premiering Ode to Night Out with Ysani Perinpanayagam. After complimenting the young people's support act performance, conductor Nil Vendetti and RNS captivated Darlington audiences with their musical energy, Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony sent us all home on a high.

One of our participants said they hadn't expected a live orchestra to sound as good as a soundtrack!

We were delighted that our Trustees could join the final rehearsals after their Board meeting, meet our partners and enjoy the concert. Thank you to all our partners and the Darlington audience for their warm north east welcome!

What do you do when there's at least 10 minutes of music and you only need 5?

Some impressive teamwork skills in our Darlo Creates workshop today as young people from 2 different schools met each other for the first time and worked on musical editing of their piece with Yshani Perinpanayagam and Royal Northern Sinfonia. They displayed huge respect for each school's ideas as they sensitively made suggestions for how to meld everything together into a 5 minute piece whilst forming a brand new ensemble.

Now it's just the premiere to prepare for on 5th March at Royal Northern Sinfonia's Darlington Hippodrome concert. Come and join us for a fab evening of music! 🎶🎻🎺

🎶🎶 On Sunday 22 February, we travelled by a Concert Coach with Bolsover residents to experience an excellent afternoon of live orchestral music with violinist Sophie Rosa and Sinfonia Viva at the Royal Theatre & Nottingham Concert Hall.🎶🎶🎶

Our group journeyed from Duckmanton, Bramley Vale, Glapwell and New Houghton to hear a vibrant 20-piece string orchestra perform a mesmerising musical journey across continents and centuries , from Astor Piazzolla to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

“It was amazing! It was like to be in a film.”
“It was mesmerising to watch the musicians playing on stage , they looked almost like they were dancing.”

For many, this was their first visit to Nottingham Concert Hall, making the experience quite special🔥

performed Robot and the Bluebird - a story of an unlikely friendship - to delighted children from 9 primary schools in Sudbury and the Shotley Peninsula in Babergh, Suffolk. Composed by Ralph Clarkson, the show includes songs and movements that the children learn, to become both audience and choir, masterfully led by Sheena Masson. Our Playing Out project with ARCADE_hello had a super sharing performance today at Gallows Close Community Centre. The Gallows Gang have really grown into a company over the last few weeks working with rap artist Chiedu Oraka and Sinfonia Viva

Gallows Close Community Centre was packed with friends and family this afternoon and the young people's performance celebrated the love they have for the Centre and it's staff.

The Our Music, Our Way concert is on the horizon as we complete the final composition and devising workshops with Whale Hill Primary, Skelton Primary, St Peters Catholic College and Freebrough Academy.

So what's next? Our music leader will pull together the final pieces the young people have crafted and we return after the half term break to begin the rehearsals 🥁

What a thrilling day last Wednesday was! Our Music, Our Way composition workshop with Ben Lunn ()
exploring with secondary students from Teesside High Teesside High School and Stokesley School rhythm making.
Followed by a wonderful evening concert by The Hallé orchestra including Elgar's Cello Concerto.

We had a great day at Carmel College for our Darlo Creates project yesterday. So interesting to see how different groups of young people respond to the same musical inspiration. A really atmospheric soundscape emerged. Can't wait to see how their piece comes together. 🎶🎻🎺

Excited for the RNS Concert with the wonderful Nil Vendetti conducting on 5th March at Darlington Hippodrome. Audiences and our participants are in for a treat as she brings such energy to her conducting! You can still grab your tickets 👇🏻
