With temperatures set to be very high over the next few days, here are some tips for how to keep your pets safe during the hot weather:
Provide constant access to shaded areas both in the house and in the garden.
Make sure there is always cold, fresh, clean water available.
Walk your dogs early in the morning and late in the evening when it is cooler.
Use cool mats or damp towels for your pets to lie on to keep cool (never place a damp towel over your pet as this can trap in heat).
Swap physical exercise for mental enrichment, including puzzle feeders, enrichment toys, Kongs or lick mats.
Never leave your dog in a car during hot weather, even for a short time. Temperatures rise very quickly, which can be fatal. Did you know, when it is 22 degrees Celsius outside, it can reach 47 degrees inside a car within 60 minutes!

When a dog gets too hot in a car and can't reduce their body temperature by panting, they can develop heatstroke, which can be fatal. Here are some of the symptoms to look out for:
- Heavy panting and difficulty breathing
- Excessive drooling
- Appearing lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated
- Collapse or vomiting
