Establishment
On 1ST November 2011, a group of four determined African women met in Woodhouse, Leeds to establish a unique association to take over from the collapsed Yorkshire Ghanaian Women Association (YOGHAWA) which started with fun-fare but could not stand the challenges of the times. Their vision was to see a women-only association, catering for the needs of African women, and supporting them to thrive and grow in the social, economic, and cultural space. Noble Ladies occupied a special niche by being an all-inclusive, women only club. We are proud that some members who joined and learned from us, started other clubs and associations. The main aim of Nobles is to improve the welfare of minoritized women in Leeds and surrounding areas. Our objectives include:
Psychosocial support to members and their families
Financial support, whenever the need arises. Preserving our cultural and traditional values
Entertainment and leisure
General health and welltOng of members and families. Growth & Impact
From 4 members, we quickly grew in numbers and within a year had over 50 members. We reached out to interested sisters from Milton Keynes and London and two clubs were formed. Together with these, Noble Ladies Club formed a network to support each branch. We participate in very important events and occasions, whenever we can. Since our formation, we have received grant support on four occasions and undertaken diverse activities, ranging from street-barbecues, cultural and traditional events, ladies dinner-dances
