Barwick-in-Elmet Maypole Trust

Barwick-in-Elmet Maypole Trust Barwick-in-Elmet - home to Britain's tallest maypole! Barwick-in-Elmet is home to Britain's tallest traditional maypole.

At nearly 90 feet, it's a proud focal point in the centre of the village. For centuries, the maypole has been lowered every three years at Easter, for repairs and re-painting, before being raised again in May, accompanied by traditional maypole dancing by local school children, the crowning of a Maypole Queen and a procession through the village. Barwick Maypole Trust are endeavouring to maintain

this great Yorkshire tradition, although the ever present spectre of 'Health & Safety', along with increasing insurance costs, mean this isn't the easiest of tasks. You can support us by attending our annual Beer Festival, or our triennial Maypole Festival (the next one being in 2017). We always need volunteers too, so if you think you can help, please get in touch!

Barwick-in-Elmet Beer Festival isn't just a highlight of the local calendar - it's also a fantastic and really important fundraiser for the Maypole Trust.

But we can't put it on without sponsors and we're sorry to say we're falling a little short so far this year. We need sponsors for each barrel of beer, plus there's opportunities to support our live music acts. So local traders, shops, pubs, restaurants - now's your chance to promote your business whilst helping a truly great cause!

Get in touch with Barwick-in-Elmet Beer Festival via their page, or email them at [email protected] for more details

Thank you! 😊

Afternoon all. Just a quick reminder that we're still very much on the look-out for prizes for the raffle we'll be holding at our upcoming Fashion Show.

A bottle of Prosecco, a box of chocolates, a meal at one of our fine village pubs, a manicure, or even an adorable cuddly toy. It'll add a bit of fun to what already promises to be a fabulous night and - of course - will raise funds for our beloved Maypole Trust.

Get in touch if you can help - thank you! ☺️

Not long now until our fantabulous Fashion Show!! If you haven't got your ticket yet, don't delay as they're selling faster than designer frocks at a closing-down sale!

We're holding a raffle at the Show, so we're on the look-out for some spectacular prizes to tempt folk with. If you're able to make any suitable donation it would be gratefully received. If any local pubs/business can provide a prize we will - of course - give full billing to their kind donation.

And as ever, everything raised goes towards our beloved Maypole Trust!

Reply or message if you can help us out. Thank you ☺️

Well, the rain certainly didn't keep you away! The Beer Festival was packed! A really great day for all involved.

Thank you to all who attended. And thank you also to all our sponsors.

But the biggest 'Thank You' has to go to the Festival organisers who worked incredibly hard to deliver a cracking afternoon for us all. It's such a vitally important fund-raiser for the Maypole Trust, and we wouldn't be able to do all we do - including holding the Maypole Festival - without this great fundraiser.

Hope to see you all again this time next year - fingers-crossed for slightly drier weather!

It may be a soggy Saturday, but there's no reason for festival goers to get wet today. You'll stay warm and dry thanks to our monster of a marquee.

And with over 20 beers to choose from, hot pork pies, wine and spirits and great live music, the grotty weather will be the last thing on your mind.

Barwick-in-Elmet Beer Festival is open and ready to go. Get yourself down here!

Okay you cider monsters (yes, we know you're out there). Just take a look what we've got in store for you.

Three fantastic ciders, including Westons Vintage on keg - and at 8.2% it packs quite a punch!

Also a couple of fruity numbers, a strawberry and lime concoction, and a terribly seasonal apple and blackberry cider.

Cider always sells out fast, so get down to Barwick Village Hall from 12:30 tomorrow if you want to sample our wares!

What you 'avin'?

Well, with well over twenty beers to choose from at Barwick-in-Elmet Beer Festival you'll be spoilt for choice.

Here's just a small selection of the lovely beers on offer this year.

Come and enjoy them ('responsibly' of course 😉) this Saturday from 12:30 at Barwick Village Hall.

17/09/2025

Okay, so the weather forecast for Saturday is looking - how can we put this? - a little 'damp'.

But what's cosier than autumnal rain pattering against the window whilst you're dry and toasty inside with a pint of hand-pulled beer in one hand and a Wilson's pork pie in the other?

Plus, we've got plenty of extra cover under our giant marquee, fabulous live music and the best company Barwick-in-Elmet can provide.

And don't forget - all money raised goes to support the Maypole Trust. So what's not to like?

Come and join us on Saturday for beers, pies, music and friends. It's going to be a great afternoon!

Look at it. Just look. Hot pork pie, Yorkshire caviar and mint sauce.

Heaven on a plate.

You can indulge in this feast - a.k.a. a Wilson's pork pie and peas - at the Barwick-in-Elmet Beer Festival one week tomorrow, 20th September.

And, of course, there'll be plenty of beers to wash it down with, from dark stouts to citrusy IPAs. And wine. And spirits. And live music. Don't miss out, join us next week.

Less than three weeks to the highlight of the drinking calendar: Barwick-in-Elmet Beer Festival!

Offering a fine array of beers, lagers, ciders, stouts, wines and spirits, so there should be something to tempt even the fussiest of drinkers.

On top of that, live music and Wilsons pork pies (with mushy peas, course)!

And it all serves as a crucial fundraiser for the Maypole Trust, helping us maintain our village tradition and hold future Maypole Festivals.

20th September at Barwick Village Hall. Don't miss it!
