Little Hiccups is a Leeds based support group that has been set up by parents who have children with additional needs. Through personal experience they recognise the importance of allowing the parents and families of a child with a disability or additional need the opportunity to meet people in similar situations, to make friends and support each other. While parents have a chance to chat to other carers in similar situations, children are able to learn through play, make friends and have fun! Activities include arts and crafts, day trips, guest speakers and social events for parents/carers.

🎄✨ Save the Date! A Festive Fundraiser for Little Hiccups ✨🎄

We know it’s still early, but this is definitely one to pop in your diaries now!

We want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to one of our wonderful parent carers, Natalie, and her amazing friends who are hosting a special Christmas Fair in aid of Little Hiccups!

Natalie will also be there with a stall showcasing her lovely handmade jewellery—a creative outlet she uses to support her mental health alongside her caring role. It’s set to be a fantastic, family-friendly afternoon packed with festive cheer, activities, and early Christmas shopping:

Many of our Little Hiccups families will already know the wonderful Laura Hellfeld , who delivers our autism workshops and works closely with us.

Laura has just released a fantastic new book: Flush Forward: A Guide to Supporting Neurodivergent and Disabled Young People with Toileting Differences and Withholding.

If you’ve ever felt standard toileting advice just doesn't work for your child, you are definitely not alone. Traditional methods, rigid timelines, and sticker charts often completely overlook things like:

Sensory processing: Sounds, smells, textures, and temperature.

Interoception: Recognising and understanding internal body signals.

Communication & physical needs: Ensuring children feel safe, understood, and comfortable.

The festive season is officially kicking off with **Light Up Wakefield** in Wakefield City Centre, celebrating the switch-on of the Christmas lights and an incredible Light Trail!

To ensure the event is accessible and welcoming for everyone, the team are offering **FREE BSL-interpreted tours** of the Light Trail:

* 📅 **Dates:** Friday 13th & Saturday 14th November
* 📍 **Location:** Wakefield City Centre
* 👤 **Guide:** Led by Deaf artist and professional tour guide, **Martin Glover**
* 🎟️ **Cost:** Completely free (booking required)

🌱 Balancing Acts: Supporting Siblings and Finding Space for Self-Care 💚

Caring for a neurodivergent or disabled child touches every part of family life. Siblings often experience a whole whirlwind of feelings—from fierce pride and deep love to worry and frustration. At the same time, parents’ and carers’ own well-being usually slips straight to the bottom of the to-do list.

Delivered by Laura Hellfeld (Neurodivergent Nurse Consulting) and funded by Leeds Parent Carer Forum, this supportive session explores practical, guilt-free ways to:

🤝 Help siblings navigate their unique role, feel heard, and stay connected

🧘 Carve out realistic, bite-sized moments of self-care that genuinely fit into busy family life

💬 Share strategies, reflections, and ideas to build a thriving family environment

Whether you want to learn some classic wartime steps or just fancy an afternoon of live music and cream tea, take a look at what’s coming up: 💃 Beginner – Intermediate Swing Jive WorkshopsLearn iconic steps from a memorable era and celebrate the history of this wartime dance phenomenon! Suitable for beginners and those looking to brush up on their moves.
